Can't tell if it's serious or just a stinger though. Blocked it with his hand and then kicked his stick to clear it - pretty quick thinking on his part.

That was in. Caps got away with that one.

I hate the Pens though so no skin off my teeth.

Hawkeye is a visual system. The puck (or ball) must be visible to enough of the Hawkeye cameras in order to determine its location. It wasn't visible.

The Hawkeye system works in tennis because no one is trying to cover up the ball. The Hawkeye system works in soccer because the ball is large enough that even when it's in a goalie's hands, it's still visible enough to the Hawkeye cameras.

Play was offside anyway wasnt it? Still offside since it just bounced off a skate of a caps player not passed or carried in?

It definitely would have been challenged if it had been called a goal.

It's a tough one though. You have to remember that it's not a regular zone entry. It's a delayed offside. Hornqvist is allowed to be in the zone with the puck so long as he clears the zone before any other member of his team enters it. Once Hornqvist's skate touches the blue line, he's considered onside again.

Here's a still from the video on NHL.com...

It looks like both Crosby and Hornqvist's left skates are in contact with the blue line. Since Hornqvist has tagged up, Crosby can legally enter the zone.

If the NHL used common sense to tell if pucks were in, Calgary would have another Cup.

At least one.

I'm still bitter about the OT in 1990.

Unfortunate, but the right call. Both Caps players were committed to the hit, and Doumolin tried dodging the Ovi hit only to get popped by the other Cap. I hope he is OK.

John Carlson scores on the power play from Ovechkin, 1-0 Washington 48 seconds into the second period.
