it does when he would be replacing someone who also can't play effectively in the league.

Anyhow the Theo debate is for another time. I hope Iginla can get another kick at the can, I just don't see us as a fit

Reason being it is quite simple to dismiss. Fleury and the Flames have always had an on again, off again relationship. Fleury has done as much damage to that relationship as anyone. It's a poor example to use when generalizing the Flames attitude and relationship with its stars.
And his attempted comeback certainly didn't hurt sales.
Forever a Flame is fine, especially with how they are currently using it. Iginla, and maybe Kiprusoff, are likely to have their numbers outright retired. Which former players honored with FAF do you believe deserved a retired number? All I can think is maybe MacInnis, but he spent close to half his career in St. Louis.
In summary, I would hardly classify that as having a horrible history of respecting "the greats".

I feel like if the name attached wasn't Iginla, many here would laud a potential signing as this classic no risk move. Like how Treliving leaves no stone unturned, hardest working GM in the league, always looking to improve his team without costing anything etc.
I get the sentimentality of wanting to see Iginla give it a go here (that's where I fall). I'm not scouting the guy, I'm just hoping he's right when he says he's healthy and can get it done.
Hell it would be less of a commitment than the Jagr or Glass signings.
Just my two cents. It is sports after all, not life and death.

Nostalgia want's Iginla to sign in Calgary. The Iginla fan in me wants him to sign with a top 5 team and take that final run at his Cup.

We're not giving it up until:
a.) Iggy finally comes home.
b.) Iggy officially hangs them up.
c.) Iggy wins a Cup with someone else.

This is the cheaper option for not just the team but us fans. We all already have an Iggy jersey.

Doesn't mean very much but sportsnet wrote an article to obviously get clicks. Still would love to see it happen.

I'm disappointed Iggy didn't start skating around Christmas and get himself in shoe in time for the Olympics. He would have made a real difference on that team. Then after scoring the game winning goal he could have signed on to an NHL team for the playoff run.

Are there any private planes heading to Boston from Calgary today?

He was only a few weeks out from surgery at that time.

It would have been tight but that was his best opportunity to showcase he could still contribute after missing 3 months
