Nope. But still applies.

Ferland, Athanasiou, and especially Mantha all did so in the gongshow a while back and got nothing
Expecting 10 games for Tkachuk here thanks to DOPS's wild inconsistency and the leafs/grease media's hatred of Tkachuk because of the jersey he wears

I hope he gets a fine and we don't lose him for any games. We need him. Who on earth hopes their own player gets suspended, let alone for 5 games?
I could see him getting 2 at most. Anything more than that is overkill.

That would be impressive, since it is a phone hearing they can't give more than 5.

Better he learns his lesson now than to keep getting suspended.
Some of us also don't want to have dirty players on our team because we remember the Iginla days when it simply wasn't tolerated.

There's no way that poke is worth 5 games. 2 at the most. This league is getting butter soft lately.

That and the holier than thou attitude from some posters who IMO are way over the line in their criticism of an admittedly foolish act by a 19 year old kid.
How soon some people forget the stupid things they did when they were that age.

If he does get suspended the team needs to play the Jankowski-Bennett line more. That Line has been generating lots of chances recently, don't know what they do with the Backlund line but please god no Brouwer.

It seems like there is a crew who just looks for any excuse to rip the Flames. Not in a constructive way, but just because that's what you do on the internet.

I would like him to tone down the off ice attagonism. However, if that is part of who he is his actions aren't selfish, they are helping the team. His net contribution by being a #### disturber is huge and far outweighs the penalties and suspensions he earns as a result.
Just like Gaudreaus turnovers you accept them as part of what makes the player great. You hope they improve these negative aspects but a person being who we think they are isn't selfish. It's playing in the manner that makes them an effective player.
1-2 games is reasonable. The over reaction criticizing him on this site is not.

I don't think you understand how internet forum discussions work. I made many mistakes at his age but I'm also not sitting here justifying those mistakes nor am I saying they should be accepted as normal for a young adult. His age shouldn't be an excuse for crossing the line as I don't see McDavid, Marner, or other players his age committing suspendable infractions like this that aren't even part of the on-ice game. It's one thing to play on the edge on the ice and get disciplined for a hard hit that goes bad but these last two incidents had nothing to do with the game and were senseless and dumb. The worst part to me is that if suspended he hurts the team as this is a critical juncture where the team is trying to get their game back on track and him being suspended makes that task more difficult.

Rule 62 – Spearing
62.1 Spearing - Spearing shall mean stabbing an opponent with the point

Yeah, don't really care what the rule/definition says....he poked him with his stick. You know what a spear is, I know what a spear is and that was not a spear. Unless you are a ref, then this is absolutely what you think a spear is because the black and white words say so.
Put it this way, when you see the headline "Tkachuk to have Hearing for Spear on Martin", is this situation what you think of when you go to watch the video? Of course not, the word "spear" inherently sounds brutal. This is what I am getting at. You don't have to agree with me, might just be an old guy thing.

I'd actually prefer if it increased. Maybe fight one of the coaches in the locker room? Or stab a trainer in the parking lot? You know Tkachuk will be in their heads if they're afraid to even go the rink

its a dumb move on his part, considering he was just suspended for a similarly innocuous tap in the Detroit game...i think the league is pretty dumb to fine that nothing play (the 'spear' i mean)... but I am hoping that some of the leadership in the room tells him to knock it off, or at least try to refrain from doing things outside of the whistle...
like it or not, the NHL has shown what will and what will not be tolerated...I love MT playing with an edge, but he needs to understand that he's on the NHL's watch list now and will get fined/suspended for infractions that other players wouldn't
