There is a long list of things I care about. Dougie Hamilton's feelings about his brother being waived did not quite make it on the list. And although it was close, the amount of time Mr. Hamilton spends on his phone while at a bar didn't either.

What is on my list is how well Dougie Hamilton plays while with the Flames. It hasn't been great yet this year so looking forward to that changing.

3rd line to start the season:
Versteeg - Bennett - Brouwer

3rd line now:
Bennett - Jankowski - Jagr

It's almost like things can change over time, and the opening night roster isn't the roster for the whole season.

Who knew?

I am actually of the opinion that Lazar-F. Hamilton will be 2/3s of the 4th line to start next season. He's a reasonably good 4th liner, but until the 3rd line problems are solved, Hamilton needs to do some AHL time. Not a big deal. Nothing to see here.

I like Freddie, he's a great 13/14 guy. I think he'll make a good career 4th liner.

But he was the right one to waive right now.

All the talk about this hurting Dougie's feelings are so stupid and hilarious.

It's not as bad as Giordano-Wideman and Grossman-Hamilton pairings to start last year...

But is it not frustrating that we have lost two openers to our biggest rival while icing what is pretty obviously not our best possible lineup? It seems every year our management treats the first 10 games as a second preseason.

Also they had all of last year to figure out Brouwer with Bennett is a total disaster

Good news. Freddie seems like a great guy but he just isn't good enough for the NHL. I am happy to see Jankowski earn a permanent spot and with Glass, Stajan, and Lazar rotating through the press box.

I know it is a small sample size but Parsons has had a couple of hiccups in the ECHL. After a couple of stellar games, he has had a couple of rough outings. He currently sits in 47 out of 52 goalies in GGA at 4.8 and ranks 44 in save percentage at .868.... Ouch. It seems like he is playing Behring a porous defense.

The ECHL is an awful place to develop a goalie. He probably faces a 2 on 0 every game...

I mean to see Janko and Jagr on the roster with Bennett moved over in only a month is quite a change in less than a month.

Yet there are those who say the team isn't trying to address their issues...

Jonathan Quick, Scott Darling, Louis Domingue, Peter Mrazek, Anton Khudobin, Cam Talbot, James Reimer, Devan Dubnyk, Thomas Greiss, Martin Jones, Braden Holtby, Phillip Grubauer, Mike Smith

all played in the ECHL.

Its fine for developing goalies.

That's exactly what I want my goalie prospects to deal with. Throw them to the wolves - it's the ECHL, who cares about the numbers. Make saves.

I am extremely happy that Jankowski is remaining on the team and am really looking forward to seeing him play with Bennett and Jagr. Hopefully that line can provide the secondary scoring the team is currently missing.

There are worse players in the league...Freddie is still fairly young. With teams moving away from old vets on the 4th line I think he will find a spot somewhere. Like others have said I could see him on the fourth line next season...maybe sooner.

31 team league likely to be 32 in the not too distant future.

Gulutzan on Freddie Hamilton, "He needs to play" bottom line.

No top line for Fred

Keep nailing yourself to that cross, Bingo.

But, yes. Jagr took Hathaway's roster spot, and Glass took Jankowski's.

And given our tire fire of a "fourth line" not infrequently gets more ice time than our third, focusing on the top nine doesn't really carry much value. Particularly given Bennett himself hasn't exactly shown he should be in the top nine.

The point, of course, is that we hamstrung ourselves by keeping an unnecessary plug in Glass when we already have Stajan and Brouwer. Jagr's presence pushes Brouwer down, while Jankowski's presence shifts Bennett to the left side, which in turn pushes Glass out. It also gives us options to switch those bottom two lines around as needed depending on how well any of those players are running. All of this makes the Flames better from day one than the roster that was actually constructed did.

Yeah you can focus on my reaction to a pretty off side comment, or you can look in the mirror. I guess you made your choice.

And I agree ... I think the team is better with Jankowski on it. For sure.

But I don't think they want to move that quickly on unproven players and I think they wanted to see Bennett at center to start the season.

No surprise:

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Adam Clendening (Arizona) on waivers today; Freddie Hamilton and David Booth cleared from yesterday

And I doubt he will be assigned to Stockton until Jagr is ready. Flames have 30 days on NHL roster or 10 NHL games played until he needs to clear waivers again.

Aaron Vickers @AAVickers
F. Hamilton on the ice at morning skate. #Flames
