maybe it's just me, but I'm sure if the Isles would take a deal like that, Hamonic would already be a Flame.
Don't think there'd be a pick coming back ... but I'd even be okay with #16 + prospect for Hamonic.

Is Hamonic injury prone? Doesn't seem like he's ever been able to play a full season, even going back to junior
edit: Did some research. Looks like suffers from chronic knee injuries.

Hasn't it been pretty widely reported that the islanders are only interested in a roster player, specifically a top 6 forward, for Hamonic or has that changed?
In this situation it sounds like we aren't trading any prospects.

Exactly why it wouldn't even be the craziest trade...it's still a hell of a cost. If we could get NYI to give us back a 2nd in the deal, if we sent them a former 1st round pick...I'd think about it:
To NYI:
'17 1st
'18 1st
1 of Poirier/Shinkaruk
To CGY:
Hamonic
2nd round pick
...yeah, I'd think about that. Hamonic is a long-term solution to the #4 question - and it gives us the opportunity to bring Kylington/Andersson up as 5/6 guys, and then just have an incredibly deep D.
....eesh though, it'd sure speak to a "we're going for it" mindset.

hopefully not ... if it's about 1st round busts, the Oilers can blow our offer out of the water.

Two 1sts? F*** that. Even if the 2018 one is lottery protected.
My offer would be 2017 1st, 2018 3rd, Adam Fox (birthplace in NY) and if that doesn't even come close I'm totally fine with it!

I don't even think you could get that on NHL 18 on easy mode. If you could pull that off, you should try and sell him ocean scenic property in Calgary.
Joking aside, I am not sure what the price would be acceptable for a Methot. Probably a prospect + 2 picks next year. and maybe put in tiny writing a Brouwer or Stajan or Bouma.

Physical defensemen rarely do. Doesn't look like he misses huge amounts most years
10-11 was his first year. He played 81 games between the NHL and the minors. that's gotta be close to 100% of the games I would assume
11-12 73/82 games. 89%
11-12 lockout year. he played 48/48 games. 100%
12-13 69/82 games. 84%
13-14 71/82 games. 86%
14-15 72/82 games. 88%
15-16 49/82 games. 60%
Last season was the only one he missed a big chunk of the season. So I wouldn't say it looks like a big issue.

2 firsts for a 2nd pairing dman? Yah, that's a big negatory for me. I really like Hamonic, but not at that price.

They can have their pick of any 2 of Shinkaruk, Poirier and Klimchuk.
On a more serious note I would consider a 1st and any of the above three formers 1sts.

If Tre was going to pay that price, he may as well have sent 2 firsts to Vegas to select Manson and get the superior, younger and bigger player.

Hamilton had no cost certainty as he was unsigned. He was refusing a higher contract from the Bruins that the Flames eventually signed him to, which was near 6M a year. Not to mention he would be an Oiler if not for the grudges between the two teams. The Flames really lucked into him.
Hamonic, on the other hand, is making less than 4M for the near future, making him one of the best non-ELC contracts in the league when healthy. It's not fair to compare the players directly in value.
I wouldn't mind if the Flames traded two firsts for Hamonic.

Manson was never available. They only exposed him because they had already worked out a deal beforehand.

There was never a chance to get Manson lol.
If Vegas refused the Theodore deal, the Ducks simply buyout Beiksa and protect Manson. If Vegas could have got Manson, they wouldn't trade him to the Flames.

His contract also add some value to him. Low cap hit. But 2x1st isn't happening unless Vegas is involved.

How much would you re-sign Backlund for though? I'm not arguing, just analyzing it.
I could live with extending Backlund but the deal has to be in favour of the Flames. I think anything over $5 million AAV on a term longer than 4 years would probably hurt the team in terms of getting Tkachuk, Bennett, and Jankowski signed long term.
Is Backlund at $5.5 million AAV for 5 years better than Hamonic at $3.75 million AAV for 3 years plus you keep the draft pick you would have lost to re-sign Stone?
Especially when you consider that you have a bit of surplus of two way forwards and a complete void of a defensive defenceman?
