Yeah I figured the cap hits might be a problem. This was just a first glance quick pick list

Isn't Chicago their farm team?

Cap hit of that roster is $74.1M, which might work if the cap goes up to $75M as discussed. It couldn't be selected as submitted, though, because it only has 18 contracts in effect for 17-18, and there needs to be 20 of those. Some of the players would need to be signed to contracts instead of selected in the draft, but that would definitely put the roster over even a $75M cap.

No, I had Preds going 8 skaters. I am talking about a team like New Jersey protecting a maybe - 3rd pair guy like Mueller (who in my eyes is not as good a prospect as Kulak) and such. Granted, I swear Mueller was a sharks prospect and I missed out on when he became a Devil, but still.

Mueller was the last trade before the trade freeze yesterday. Devils sent a 2nd and 4th in exchange for Mueller and a 5th

I'd be pretty cheesed if I were a Sens fan. Ceci is terrible. I get that he's younger but he's just not good.

Anyone else find it so amusing how many 2013 first round draft picks have been exposed or protected, while our 2012 first is exempt?

It doesn't have them all loaded when I bring it up, and if i hit "quick protect" it protects a lot of the wrong players.

This is assuming Arizona has a deal to protect Domingue
|
Sounds like CBJ may have a deal to protect Korpisalo. Haven't heard any rumblings of ARI making a deal to protect Domingue, that seems pointless to me. ARI should be making deals with Vegas to get a goalie, not protect their backup

Click "draft team" and they will all have been pre checked.

I kind of hope Vegas takes Griffin Reinhart (D) or Laurent Brossoit (G)
The later because I'm still anxious Brossoit could turn into one that got away. I hate that he is in the Oilers system now. .. and Reinhart because LOL.

I did a quick mock using the cap friendly thingy.
I think I might be in the minority when it comes to Vegas and what they will choose initially. I doubt they go more than 3 or 4 million over the cap and instead grab a mix of vets but mostly inexpensive guys that are easily dealt elsewhere or able to be sent to the AHL.
My go at this thing..
F
Bobby Ryan
Josh Bailey
Matt Stajan
Jimmy Hayes
Riley Sheahan
Kyle Clifford
Joaquim Nordstrom
Marko Dano
Jonathon Marchessault
Colton Sissons
Beau Bennett
Brenden Gaunce
Alexander Burmistrov
Ty Rattie
Mikhail Grigorenko
D
Josh Georges
Brendan Dillon
Matt Dumba
Brandon Davidson
Martin Marincin
Josh Manson
Trevor Van Riemsdyk
Jamie Oleksiak
Griffin Reinhart
Andrej Sustr
G
Marc Andre Fleury
Micael Neuvirth
Antti Rantaa
Joonas Korpisalo
Philip Grubauer
Cap hit 47,345,000
Cap room 25,655,000
9 guys are RFA which changes cap hit etc.
Obviously without knowing side deals and all that stuff, this is only a best guess kind of thing but allows them to ice a somewhat decent team as well as acquire some assets to wheel and deal to improve even more.

Wow @ James Neal from the preds being available. Crazy a player of his caliber is up for the taking. Flames made out pretty good, but expansion blows for some teams.
And lol @ Blake f'ing Comeau on the protection list for the Avs. What a terrible team they have.

Don't they have to wait a season before returning a player to the team he's drafted from?

If I'm McPhee here's my strategy:
1. If there's a good/promising NHL player exposed who is <25 years old then that's my pick.
2. If there's a good >=25 year old NHL player exposed, I ask for a first round pick to not pick him.
3. If I get the first round pick, I take the next best player, otherwise I take player #2.
I think there's 5-6 cases that fit #1, 4-5 that fit case #2 (that will bite on such an offer), Brouwer may fall into #3 as I don't see the Flames giving up assets to not pick him and it depends on how high Vegas is on Kulak/Wotherspoon/Shinkrauk (#1) -- none of those three are #1 scenarios fo r me.
Some of these moves so far are rather confusing though. Makes me wonder if McPhee is doing favors. As long as the Ducks are held over a barrel I don't really care.

Yeah he always seemed to be a weak link on the ice for them but he's only 23 and they obviously want to see him through development before giving up on him.
