How many penalties are in that one single play. Ovechkin slash, then errant high stick to the back of Crosby's head, then the Niskaken cross check to Crosby's head. Ovechkin gets nothing. The inconsistent refereeing standard in the NHL is pathetic.

They missed the AO two hander but the stick to Crosby's head was pretty incidental as from one angle it looks a lot worse than it was. They showed a lot of replay angles last night and you could see the stick just grazes his head and it's the skate on skate contact that causes Crosby to change direction.

Jim Rome is spending a fair bit of time on this today incidentally so this incident is pretty well been non stop on 960 since I've been listening at 7:00 a.m. Bottom line for me is that I hope Crosby is okay and this doesn't impact his career.

Just don't ever read anything Rossi writes. Your brain cells will thank you.

No Ovechkins stick ricochets off Crosbys helmet and his stick makes a noticeable change in direction. It's a stick hitting a player in the head, that's about as cut and dry a high stick as there is.

Nope. Look at all the angles as there's a replay that clearly shows what happened. It's a hard two hander to Crosby's right arm and as the play continues their skates collide when Ovechkin is brining his stick back and it clips Crosby's helmet. It's a cut and dry slash but nowhere near a cut and dry high stick as it's incidental.

The worm has turned all of a sudden.

That's going to be a tough road to hoe for the Pens.

Maybe I've just missed the oodles of fairweather fans reading hockey takes from unemployed writers who still miraculously have media credentials, and taking that as fact over the countless articles from mainstream sports media sites that essential dismiss Rossi. Where are these fans you're talking about?
This is a country that elected Donald Trump.....mainstream media dismissed him....but the perceptions that he through out there won him the election....half his schtick wasn't even factual. I have family and friends who live in California, Chicago, New York, Boston, Florida, and Texas....that's for starters.

What is Jim Rome's take on this...since he's spent time on it? Thanks.

People here don't seem to realize that major stars ...let alone the best player in the world....getting rocked by concussion after concussion is not a good look for the league whether or not the hit/action that caused it was legal or illegal.

The league has to look at stricter supplemental discipline when it comes to actions causing concussions.

2nd concussion this season and i think the 5th of his career. this might cost the pens a stanley cup this year as it has affected them in years past. its terrible for the league and you have to feel for that fan base. replace the pens with the flames, and there would be pitchforks on CP.

Pens aren't my first hope to win the cup after the obvious but this really sucks for that team, its fans and a league that needs these stars playing.

He thinks it wasn't dirty. For the record he also had Eddie Olczyk on who has coached Crosby and loves him and not only did he say it wasn't dirty, he said Niskanen should have only received a 2 minute penalty and that the five minute major was overboard. Quite a few callers and emails read on the topic. Good I suppose to have hockey in the spotlight but you would rather it not be about an incident like this.

It would absolutely tickle me if the Pens pull off a win in this series anyway. It would make this far less appalling to watch the Caps lose to the Pens when they're this hamstrung. I realize this is highly unlikely, but I would love it so much.

the one eastern team that I was confident could stop an apocalyptic Oiler championship has just been neutered. when somebody said that this is the darkest timeline I dismissed it, but things are turning in that direction, night by night.

somebody, anybody out there in the hockey universe, hear our cries for help.
