I don't think that Gulutzen is running the same system that Desjardins et al. employ in Vancouver.

Bartkowski has spoken to the system being similar.

If you compare Vrbata and Iginla with regards to playoffs appearance both have played on horrible teams that didn't make the playoffs often. Iginla has been in the playoffs 7 times out of 20. Vrbata has been in the playoffs 5 times out of 15. The big difference is one guy can take the hitting and scuffle after the whistle and the other one can't. One guy will defend a teammate and fight if needs to the other can't. If the Flames are looking for third line player Iginla is the man. If they are looking for first line player Iginla might not be able to keep up with Sean and Johnny. He sure can protect them but he might get more penalties for it. Sharp is a proven winner that could help the looker room and also compliment the third line.
The game tonight will be a bruising affair. If the Flames are manhandled by the Kings then Iginla will be better fit then Vrbata.

If the choice is between Vrbata and Iginla my pick is Iginla. Better in the playoffs and can take the rough stuff.

Iginla is a 40 year old on his last legs. What are we even talking about.

I think he has enough juice for another 40 games. Then he can hang em up.

Vrbata will be 37 let's not pretend he is way younger. He is having a better year this year than Iggy but pay cheques stop in the playoffs and so will Vrbata

Vrbata didn't play a rough style of game. Iggy has abused that body with his style of game.

I'm also not interested in Vrbata either.
Regarding Iggy - I don't understand why we are still playing pocket pool over a former Flame whose best days are well behind him and he's not going to be in the NHL in a month.

Lets worry about getting to the playoffs, regardless of the banter back and fourth, I would take Iggy or Vrbata for Chaisson to sit out. just sayin

^^^ Exactly.
Whomever the Flames get (I'm assuming they'll get a winger somehow), that will be an upgrade to our current lineup.
I'm ok with it.
I want Iginla because his history here will be an emotionally boost for a team that has had a hard time getting up for home games.

I get what people say about Iggy figuring he is done. He did have 47pts last year and was a better player. Is it Father Time? Maybe but maybe we look a little deeper and the entire Avalanche team is underachieving. Duchene, Landeskog, Mackinnon all having poor years.
As a fan I always hoped that before Iggy retired Calgary would be in a place where they could bring him back and he could play in the playoffs in the Flaming C one more time. I am not denying nostalgia is the main reason I want him back but I also believe he will have new life and a bit of jump to whatever team he goes to. I am terrified that he will end up in Edmonton and would rather not have that happen

I am not overly excited about any of the rentals that are left on the market. But as long as they come at a reasonable price I would much rather have one or two of (Iggy, Vrbata, Doan, Sharp, Grigorenko, etc.) than having to rely on Chiasson or Bouma for a playoff run.
God forbid one of our top six gets hurt and we start playing Chiasson on the top line again...

I'd say, go for both Iggy and Doan, then we'd be set for the next 3 games vs. the Kings (and then hopefully the playoffs)

Bouma for Iggy
Chaisson for Doan
Doan-Stajan-Iginla 4th line. I like it

Sharp is too much of a risk. Back to back concussions. He may not even be tradable due to medical reason was the last I heard. He will be evaluated by doctors after tonight's game.

Depth. Injuries. If he costs a 4th rounder, it's worth it.

Doan isn't going anywhere. I think he is just trying to say the right things to the media but since when has Doan actually cared about winning over horses and golf? He might waive to go to San Jose or Anaheim but thats it.
