ok, but how does Burrows help with that?
I guess character doesn't always mean "good character".

Dahlen a potential Forsberg? lol
It's not guaranteed but they have very similar stats in the same league, and the WJC at the same age, it's not like the comparison is being made just because they are both Swedish.

Forsberg of course had a higher draft position, and was the more highly touted prospect, but Dahlen has been putting up really impressive numbers for his age in a men's league.

As a Flames fan I am pretty annoyed with the fact that they got such a good prospect for a guy who is a replacement level NHLer.

I really don't see what there is to be jelly about on our end here. Congrats he looks like a nice B level prospect, hope he works out! God knows the weight of the world will be on his shoulders

The odds of him becoming anywhere near comparable to Forsberg are extremely low.

The comparison / hopeful-expectation is outright ridiculous.

Sure it's probably a 10% chance he becomes a 60 pt NHLer but that's the risk with every prospect.

When the trade of Erat for Forsberg happened it looked unlikely that Forsberg would become as good as he has.

The point is that at the time of the trades their performance in their draft and draft + 1 seasons were very similar, that is the only comparisons people are making.

And it's as useless / futile as it is laughable. It's beyond a long shot, and indicative of that fanbase being starved for something to feel hopeful / excited about.

Forsberg is also 6'1 and 205, maybe even bigger this year. They aren't really similar players. From scouting reports he seems alot like Backlund, if he turns out like Backlund than this is an amazing deal for Vancouver. Good luck to him, lots of ridiculous expectations will be put on him by that fanbase.

It's no different than any other prospect or trade discussion when people compare other players that have had comparable stats.

Every fanbase does it when they acquire a player, and don't think it's indicative of the Canucks fanbase at all.

In fact all the people that I have seen making the comparisons are Mainstream media, bloggers (not related to the Canucks), and Senators fans.

Getting anything for Burrows is a win for the Canucks.

Well Forsberg's development was immense after his draft +1 season. Not at all common, I feel bad for the kid if that's the expectation.

Please, Canuck fans have been over-rating their prospects for several years now because they're stuck spinning their wheels and wasting the mid first round picks they did have while western Canadian rivals have actually drafted blue chip young players.

Forsberg's name should not have been mentioned in the aftermath of this trade at all. The odds of him becoming a full time NHLer are up for debate. Being an all-star is just pie in the sky at this point.
