Big Tuna, your horse #### is borderline absurd.

I guess i will try to get this back on track. Was looking at points per 60 minutes and it just makes you smile seeing Tkachuk near the top. He plays less then some of the other rookies but when you level the ice time it shows how much of an impact he is making. Add to that he plays some of the hardest minutes a rookie can play regarding match ups and zone starts makes me think he has to be in the conversation. Just over 6 weeks ago he turned 19.
Granted Matthews and Laine are going to be the favorites, but making the nhl in his draft year, in the role he has IMO elevates him over some of the other players that are a year or two removed from their draft.

Why fans have to post from other teams always gets me. Getting an outsiders opinion is always appreciated but what this Tuna guy does is bizarre. It's a Tkachuk thread, go make a thread about your Leafs and talk to yourself there.

Help, save, whatever.

His advanced stats are seriously impressive and he gets way tougher zone starts. He definitely should be in the running and may end up getting nominated but as of right now it's probably between Matthews and Laine with Matthews pulling ahead since Laine has been hurt.
Pretty awesome though to have 3 amazing rookies on 3 Canadian teams.

Just took a look at the rookies stats...he does play a lot less than most of the other rookies. Why is his icetime so low? I thought his line is your best line as of right now.

I think it is because of PP time. I would think most of the other rookies play on the first unit while Tkachuk plays on the second. That is just a guess though.

He's also not on the pk and the flames are the most penalized team in the nhl

That was quite a brilliant pass from Tkachuk in that last game. Great eyes there.

Just looking at PP time for rookies and Tkachuk sits in 10th with 85:48. Time for some of the other Calder contenders:
Werenski 131:33
Laine 121:36
Matthews 108:19
Marner 102:23
Nylander 101:18

Maybe it's cuz I'm new here but why are fans from other teams allowed to derail threads on a Flames forum? Isn't that what HF is for? Someone needs to ban him. As for Tkachuk... Just a beast, that is all.

You have to allow fans of other teams for some perspective. In the case of Big Tuna he represents your stereotypical Leafs fan and by now we all know his act so I don't know why anyone would get overly excited about his posts (except maybe people that are new to CP but in time you will understand). We have some good Oilers and Canucks fans here that post and you won't get those types of fans here if you are overly hostile.

Ya Tkachuk is on a different level than Nylander, putting up almost identical points while playing less, on the shutdown line, not getting sheltered matchups, playing a great 2 way game already. I think Tkachuk is in the top tier of rookies (Matthews, Laine, Werenski, Marner) and has separated himself from Nylander Aho, Konecny and others. Just such a complete player at 19, awesome to watch

Fair enough, just seems like he was completely derailing this thread to spew stuff that TSN/Sportsnet force feeds us. I'm all up for positive discussions with other fans but why would I want to come here and see a discussion about Leafs players? Yuch

I think it's fair to discuss other Calder candidates in a Calder thread. Though the style is a bit obnoxious.

Agreed. He usually sticks to the out of town threads and Leafs-centric threads, free agency etc but this one as you say was a bit of a derail to this thread.

The long lost art of listening to the perspective from the other side can be both enlightening and productive.
I'd sell that as a fortune cookie but I think they'd run out of print room and also consider it a tad corny.
