Loubo gave Wideman his hardest working Flame award. 6 SOG.

He really should.

Guy was full f####ing marks. Even the 5-3 loss. Not sure I've honestly been able to say a goalie was actually solid after allowing 5 before.. but he was.

3 goose eggs just in the last half of november. That's crazy good goaltending.

This is why advanced stats mean eff all. 31 out of 39 shots were not scoring chances. More than half were garbage shots from the point or from bad angles. Johnson had to make several big saves but to say they had 31 scoring chances is exactly why I scroll past all advanced stats posted.

If they can't even get this simple stat right then imagine all the other "stats" they're misinterpreting.

Scoring chances is more than just shots from in tight, it's all shot attempts from within the danger area. The Leafs put the puck towards the net 69 times tonight.

I would argue that the 31-17 number isn't really as bad as it looks. I don't have a shot chart linked to PP time, but from my memory of the game, the majority of their scoring chances came either on the PP or in the third period when the Flames were turtling.

Tonight, the Leafs, based on the quality of the shot attempts they made, were expected to score 3.87 goals. At 5 on 5, they were only expected to score 2.62. They put up over a third of their total offense in two powerplays. Johnson bailed the team out on those occasions.

The Flames dominated the first ten minutes and then played even hockey until the end of the second. You can tell this by watching the game or by looking at the fancy stats.

Had to stream the game late, but boy was that a joy to watch. I am jealous of those of you that were there! The post-game thread also did not disappoint. Great gifs, photoshops, and of course the ATL.

Go Flames!

The Flames smashed the Leafs just like I would do with an avocado to make delicious guacamole.

Leafs are well on their way to being a cup contender. And yes, Babcock is the best coach in the NHL.

It's funny, because watching the game I had this feeling that I'd be seeing a Flames-Leafs cup final at some point.

Not because of the way either team was playing, just an inexplicable premonition-type thing.

Both teams are headed in a good direction. The Leafs played their horrible backup and had played the night before. Freddy stops those 2 in the opening minute and it's a different game imo.

Oh the night before? Those poor tired babies.
Flames had just come off a road trip where they played six games in nine nights. They had one day off between that road trip and last nights game.

But oh no.. a back-to-back for the upcoming contender stopped them in their tracks.

It was pretty evident to anyone that watched the game that the Leafs had far more quality scoring chances in the game. Goaltending was clearly the difference in this game.

really, I honestly thought it was the 3 goals the flames scored.

Maybe a result of having a lead from 19 seconds in, but I noticed a lot more stretch passes. They won the wrong way!

This is one of those games where I wouldn't worry about advanced stats. When a team gets an early 3-0 lead and the other team isn't able to respond, advanced stats go out the window. Most teams will just turtle, which is pretty much what the Flames did.

The Leafs were pressing hard which leaves more times when a stretch pass becomes available once the puck is obtained. Didn't notice the stretch actually working much though.
