Chiasson is a perfectly serviceable 3rd liner. He possesses zero flash and dash so I can see how fans who are only impressed by that might think he's useless. He actually has some solid hockey sense and finds his dmen well in the offensive zone. But yeah he doesnt have fancy puckhandling so waste of a roster spot to some. He's been okay but not spectacular. Certainly I haven't thought he needs to be benched.
Jankowski will make it long term, have patience

Really? Is that what your complaints are down to?
When all you have to complain about is salary, it's time to step back and take a breath.

Yup, pretty much. If a player is getting paid to be the best player in the team, he should be the best player in the team.

Because we realize how the CBA and contract bargaining works? Or because Monahan gets about that amount from pretty much any GM in Treliving's position?
Or just because you like to call people stupid?

Yup, that's right. You're the only person on the entirety of Calgarypuck with an IQ above room temperature in Celsius. Gosh, I don't know how the rest of us can cope with being overshadowed by your brilliance.
Or maybe, you know, you're missing something that some other people are seeing.
Nah, couldn't be that.

Haha yep. I like the continuity of the same image.
I did the same with Bennett when he switched numbers:

Am I missing something, but am I talking about Treliving here? No I'm not, I'm talking about Monahan.

Treliving is the guy who gave Monahan the money that you say requires him to be the best player on the team.
Money which is (a) not the most on the team; and (b) over a seven year term, including UFA years which are being bought by likely overpaying RFA years.
In short

So you're fine with how Monahan is playing?
I swear I hear one more time that Oilers have kool-aid drinking fans, I'm gonna burst, this is a prime example of a kool aid drinking fan, this is exactly the same how Oilers were high on T. Hall.
26 games, 10 points, yeah boys, 6m ain't enough, he should get more I guess.

And you've never heard of a situation where a player struggled for a period of time?
Nope. Let's use absolutes. Let's call him garbage. Then we'll insult any fan that doesn't want to jump on board with our wildly extreme stance.
Yup, that sounds like a plan. And when people call us out on it, we'll insult them too. kool-aid drinkers, yeah, that's it!

Well, to me this has been only the matter of when (this happens) because he has never impressed me with his plays, too dependant of his linemates to get something going, can't make any plays, his passing is brutal. For the sake of Flames I hope I'm wrong but I'm not holding my breath.

Barkov scored his 3rd goal of the season last night, his first since October 15th. Young players struggle, it happens.
No one is fine with Monahan's play but it happens you deal with it and hope it ends ASAP.

True, but Barkov is getting the chances and he's a rock solid 2-way player.

It's funny - all the top forwards from that draft are struggling this year.
Mackinnon: 5 Goals - 15 Points
Barkov: 3 Goals - 15 Points
Drouin: 3 Goals - 9 Points
Lindholm: 2 Goals - 7 Points
Monahan: 6 Goals - 10 Points
Guess for the most of those guys the pressure of new contracts is hurting their play.

Monahan has given us every reason to believe he'll bounce back, and every GM in the league would have signed him to 7 years given the chance. No one is saying they are happy with how he's playing; we are saying we're confident he'll bounce back and be worth every penny of the $6.3MM he's making.
Vilzeh your arguments are out to lunch.

Why are my arguments out to lunch? What exactly has Monahan done this year which backs up the "I'm sure he will bounce back" talks? Maybe Johnny can carry him again when he gets back tho.

Was he getting his chances? Seems like an easy way to dismiss having two goals on the season and not scoring for twenty straight. Barkov didn't get almost six million for five years for his rock-solid defence either.
Monahan is struggling but it appears (maybe hopefully) that he's turning the corner. Two solid games in a row, 2nd star vs the Islanders.

As for this, this is all kinda.. wrong. Well maybe not totally wrong but mostly. The timeline is a big factor.
Monahan never depended on anyone until he was paired up with Gaudreau and Hudler full time, then he took a back seat to his two flying wingers. Before that he was the driver dragging around soon to be NHL-corpses like David Jones and Curtis Glencross and still producing. Putting up points early in his career with Sven Baertschi and Lee Stempniak on his lines. Which one of those drove the play if not for Monahan?
Go back and watch some of AC's highlights, you continually see a smart hockey player with a deadly shot and some fantastic passing ability.
Maybe with Gaudreau and Hudler the points came too easy and he got complacent, maybe missing camp, big new contract, a coach asking him to do things he never had to do under Hartley are all factoring into a rough start. To me it seems like he's overthinking plays instead of just shooting or passing... but this is a talented kid, he's not the 3rd line player some of you seem to think.
He'll right the ship.
