Kerr and Steinberg were more or less saying the coaching is to blame and has to take the brunt of the blame. Wills said he doesnt know of a coach in the NHL past or present who could win with a top line, top d-pairing and starting goalie strugging this hard. Said things like 'is Glen the one giving away odd man rushes at the blue line', etc.
It sounded a lot like the discussions we have on here. Kerr basically ended up asking when it is time to panic, how long we can go on like this before things start getting really bad. Also made the chicken and the egg analogy asking if the players have been bad because of the coaching, or the coaching has looked bad because of the players. I was really surprised to hear some of the things they said, not because
I disagree or they were alarmist but because the Fan 960 is usually very homer-ish and easy on the coaching/management.
I kind of feel bad for GG. I really dont think ALL of this is his fault at all. That is really harsh imo. We've had some shocking performances from our highest paid, go to players. At the end of the day, even if he is in over his head (who knows this early) - that's going to be on management for hiring him.
He is an easy scapegoat. Not that his 'system' and some of the decisions he's made arent questionable, but its not fair to solely blame him for our terrible play. This is coming from someone who has been really critical of the coaching. I think it is ridiculous to blame him for all of it and purpose firing him.

They were all basically joking about how crazy it is to call for his firing 5 games into the season. But Kerr and Steinberg didnt sound like big fans of the coaching at all. Especially Kerr who is a usually a bit of a sensationalist anyway so he was just really passionate in his questioning of the coaching. Sounds a lot like he doesnt think the players are to blame (primarily).

None of them, basically they said the fault is with the top players who are completely under performing.
Around the coach, Rob & Pat were saying the Coaches have some of the blame as well... specifically around the power play.
Derek Wills had a tough time laying fault with the Coaches
Pat also disagree with the plan around Tkachuk, he said he would rather see him sent to the minor than see him sit in the press box for multiple games.

PP and PK can be blamed on the coaching staff. And even then it's not on the coaching staff that the team has taken the most minor penalties in the NHL so far.
The 5v5 struggles come down to the players IMO.
Too many bad decisions with the puck, too many times the d-men have let guys get behind them or a forward didn't cover the point. Those mistakes have nothing to do with systems and are issues that we have seen too many times early in this season.
Top that all of with the fact that out "best" players have looked horrible and disinterested so far this season and it's a bit of a perfect storm.

Full disclosure:I am not a fan of Kerr. No idea what he brings to the table, other than to fill a couple hours of dead air each afternoon. It has been 6 games in and the best players have been awful. The coach should be accountable to some extent (the powerplay in particular), but unless the staff is actively teaching the team to play fearful, with no emotion or purpose, it is basically all on the players.
Edit: from the above posters, perhaps Kerr wasn't burying the coaches.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Flames are going to get destroyed tonight, and won't win the next 5. They will be out of it by mid November.
There is nothing to indicate anything else could possibly happen at this point. The team looks THAT awful. Gulutzan will have destroyed this team in 10 games. What a disgrace.

Well, there's certainly an opportunity to rattle one or two off on the power play finally, abysmal power play vs abysmal penalty kill, something's gotta give. 5 on 5 I see them outworking us severely though, unfortunately. I just hope Calgary puts in a solid effort.

Flames are going to destroy tonight, and will win the next 5. The will still be in it by mid November.
There is nothing to indicate anything else could possibly happen at this point. The Blackhawks look THAT awful. Gulutzan will have revitalized this team in 10 games. What a miracle.
(Just trying to stay positive :P)

The Flames, if they can contain Toews, and the entire Kane line, they should be able to collect two points. They've shed all their quality depth players and it's more like a pair of AHL lines on their bottom six.
They are beatable.

Loubardias just went on a huge rant defending the coaching. Says he's spoken to every player in the locker room on and off the record and they all respect Gulutzan and to a man they all said the system is not to blame.
