Big sample sizes of collected data will correct for those things.
correct or maybe make look worse.

but in year one of 3 they were on an awful team and would have had just awful forwards on theice with them.... Stajan being the #1C ... Stempniak putting up a -21 ... Monahan a -20.

If you look at numbers for 3 years that is like saying Monahan is a 50 pt forward.

The $80 I spent last year turning my Bouwmeester jersey into a Russell jersey so it's not embarrassing to wear anymore really doesn't appreciate this news

You're better off to burn it and never buy another one, to avoid jinxing the next guy.

Haha, in my defence it was supposed to be Iggy. Was going to school in Edmonton at the time, when you're not in Calgary basically the only options at stores in fall 2009 was Iggy or Bo. Buddy called me from West Ed on Boxing Day saying they had 2 for 1 jerseys and if I wanted in cuz he was getting one. I said sure, get me an Iggy in M. When I saw him later, he handed me the Bo, saying that was the only medium. Great, thanks for letting me know before you got it..though this was his first year here, he wasn't a disappointing, socially awkward punchline yet. That was just a bonus

And even when I got it done I knew Russell could leave soon. I don't care about having a jersey of a player who's gone, it was more that Bo jerseys gets you cat-called around the city. Russell would not...unless he signs with Edmonton of course..

"Russell is saying to himself it probably makes sense to maybe do a one-year deal and then go back at the free agent trough next summer, and with Las Vegas coming in there will be teams that lose defencemen in the expansion draft and will be looking for a defenceman next year and suddenly the market would heat up for him.”

The Oilers have a hole in the their Top 4, McKenzie said, with Oscar Klefbom, Adam Larsson and Andrej Sekera there, and all the others more bottom-pairing guys. It’s not ideal to go with a player like Brandon Davidson, Mark Fayne, Darnell Nurse or Jordan Oesterle there, McKenzie said.

But Russell doesn’t sound like any kind of sure thing to sign here.

“He’s still talking to as many as eight teams,” McKenzie said. “The Calgary Flames are still interested in having him back because they have got the same problem on their blueline. They have a hole in their Top 4.”

Kris Russell legit NHL D-Man but I would be very surprised if the Oilers signed him. Klefbom, Sekera, Nurse, Davidson, Reinhart all lefties

Gotta love that logic.

Legit NHL defense > Righty/Lefty, Bob.

Didn't the Oilers make him an offer? That certainly sounds like the Oilers have intentions of signing him. The offseason Kool-Aid in Edmonton is something else. All it takes is a few months of no hockey and the fall back in love with the same players that couldn't get it done last season.

Russell Blocks a ton of shots as we all know and he's decent outside of the D-zone. He is unquestionably HORRIBLE in the D-zone though and that cannot be refuted. He won't make the Oilers markedly better.

A proper lefty:righty defense ratio is good for another 8 points in the standings.

I'll refute you on that.

Good defensive play is not always the cause of possession. Russell's not the best at protecting the puck in the defensive zone, but he's excellent at breaking up plays with his stick and -- as we know all too well -- his body. To call him HORRIBLE in the D-zone is a slight to other far worse defensemen. He's no Andy Wozniewski.

Maybe Russell turned them down and now Stauffer is doing spin control.

Not really. He's a little better than average at that.

It is very strange that he would be waiting this long with offers on the table. You'd think they would start to disappear at some point.

It really makes me think he's holding out for a spot on the Flames somehow. Treliving would have to pull off a couple miraculous trades to make that fit.
