Think it had something to do with the official flames board going down for a bit and needing somewhere to find Flames rumours or something. Plus that board was ugly and this one is so pretty! Plus I was drunk and wanted to argue.

Moving to the States made me desperate for real hockey talk. Even big hockey fans down here don't know #### about the game.

I'm not kidding at all when I say this, CP feels like a real connection to my homeland. I can't describe to you how valuable that is to me.

I liked the level of intelligence and thoughtful discussion. Was afraid to post for the longest time and worried incessantly about my posts being illogical or attack worthy. That was back in the Lanny days where you better back up your opinion or be destroyed. By now most of you have become accustomed to my ignorance and I don't worry anymore.

Most of you know I'm an Oilers fan but this is such a great gathering place for any and all hockey discussion, not to mention the multitude of topics on the Main Forums. It's probably my most visited website.

I've had to grow a thicker skin when the Oilers are being discussed, but really, they've been historically awful - what can I say? I do think I'm able to bring a balanced perspective now and then. Overall this is a really great board and I do enjoy it a lot.

I was a long time lurker of Calgary Puck before I joined, but I signed up because I was unfortunately born in Mulletville, and the people here cheer for a greasy "No Good" team. I needed to break free from the people of mulletville as discussions would always end up with them talking about the good old dynasty days and I don't live in the past, so here I am.

Lurked here for a number of years while mostly posting on the official Flames board. Can't clearly remember why I fully made the switch, but I seem to recall the official board getting worse and worse while CP was good.

I was never much for message boards - found the quality of the content to be mind-numbing. Didn't know it at the time, but I just wasn't going to the right places.

Posted on the main Flames board for a few years, simply because I wanted to talk Flames, but it was pretty painful most of the time (except for ConnorFutureGM, an Oilers fan - his idiocy kept it interesting).

Tried HF on someone's recommendation, but I found that worse than the main boards. I thought the quality of posting there was no better than CDC.

Heard about CP a few times, but every time I checked it out, it seemed like every thread was degrading into an Iginla debate, with the same half a dozen posters on each side of the argument, saying the same things over and over, with the same half a dozen thanks under each post, and - frankly - it made my stomach turn (and you all know who you are).

However, when the strike hit in 2012, I then discovered why CP is so awesome... the huge variety of sources - really good quality sources - of information, different points of view etc. Even though some of the arguments about the strike were pretty repetitive as well, it showed me how great CP can be.

Then I discovered the other topics and there was no looking back. Now I am ridiculously, and shamefully, addicted to the site and come here everyday. I hate myself for it, but love the site.

Killing time at work....

Soooooo much better at it during the season. I still dread the day after garbage bag day, trying to figure out what site I'm gonna habitualy refresh during the offseason.

I was living in Colombia in 2001 and the only way back then to follow the Flames back then was listening to Peter Maher streaming live on an old Macbook G4 and rapidly refreshing game threads on CP. Not sure how I found CP, there wasn't much on the internet back then I lost my original account somewhere along the way and created a new account in 2006.

My bro Cowboy89 introduced me to CalgaryPuck. Thought it would be an okay place to get my Flames talk fix. Since then, I've met a bunch of CP'ers in real life, played hockey on the Puckers team, bought tickets in the ticket exchange, participated in epic threads (the Wannamaker saga comes to mind), laughed my ass off in the E=NG threads.

10/10, would become a member again.

This. But the first time I posted I asked if anyone knew why that board was down and it made people really pissed off. I then got into a flame war with someone and then avoided the site for 3+ years before starting to use the site regularly 2011ish

I was a lurker for a long time but joined when I felt some posters' criticism of Iginla was too much.

I posted at the Flames' site for a while, but they shut down their forums for a while after some idiot posted those cartoons of Muhammad that the European magazine got threatened over way back then.

I had lurked here for a while before that, but that was what got me to finally register.

I joined when I found out about it after 2004 when I just couldn't take the official forums anymore.

I think it was a year before I posted. The place was much more intimidating back then. Now it's all rainbows and kittens.

Yeah I remember that. Stupid reason to shut down a forum. 1 person broke rules so you shut down everything.

The 2004 Flames playoff run. It's also the best hockey forum in the world.
