Maybe he was there to watch Scott Darling.
I've never heard of the Foxborough Pro League before, so I had to look it up. Six teams that play every Wednesday night over the summer. It looks like it's mostly players from the Boston area or players who played college hockey in the Boston area.
Gaudreau, Hathaway, Arnold, and Adam Fox are all on teams. Tonight, Vesey's team was playing Darling's.

Just looked up the roster for Vesey's team.
Guess who is on his team? Garnet Hathaway.

Probably not that much fun. Would be very surprised if they allowed contact in those games.
An injury during one of those games would be grounds to suspend a NHL player without pay as they are not sanctioned by NHL teams.

According the website he has changed his name to Garrett Hathaway though.
Adam Fox is on the Keator Club team with Noah Hanifin, not a bad guy for to learn from through the summer.
But Gaudreau's team is stacked. It also has Arnold, the Hayes brothers, Dumoulin, Clendenning, Yandle, Morin and Palmieri.

Is it a labour law issue that the NHL allows this, because it certainly isn't in the best interests of the teams. I know that it rarely happens, but I still cringe when the Flames draft a university player because of this.

I am more 50-50 on my attitude towards players like Vesey, Kevin Hayes and even Justin Schultz who ended up forcing the team that drafted them to either trade their rights or just let them go. The thing is we are just hearing about the players like Vesey, what about those players got drafted by the NHL team and stayed until they finished their NCAA eligibility then not get signed by the team that drafted them? We don't hear those news. They are the same as the CHL players, only difference is I believed NHL need to sign the CHL player in 2 or 3 years after they are drafted or else this CHL player will either go back on the draft and can be free to sign with any team. NCAA players doesn't have that luxury. They cannot sign a contract while they are in junior years then keep playing in the NCAA; otherwise they will lose their scholarship and college eligibility. CHL player can sign an entry level contract and sometimes get a bonus money and still play in the CHL.
Like a lot of people say, GM might think twice if they are willing to gamble on drafting a good player that is headed to NCAA or just draft a lesser talent player who is playing in the CHL. I think some GM still think there are some upside in drafting a player headed to NCAA. I think it is a gamble that GM might definitely consider.

I'm sure they'll be able to offer a much bigger contract than Buffalo did, what with all their cap space
