Oh, come on. Ak-Sar-Ben Knights was a totes brilliant name. In fact, every team should have a name like that.
We could be the At-Reb-La Flames.
The Rags could be the Kroy-Wen Rangers.
Toronto could have the Oi-Rat-No Maple Leafs. (This one's actually kind of appropriate.)
Then there would be the Si-On-Il-Li Blackhawks, the I-Ru-Oss-Im Blues, the Ain-Rof-I-Lac Kings, and the A-Di-Rolf Panthers.
And up north, we could have the Doo-Gon Oilers.

Except that the man writing a check for $500,000,000 (or $642,550,000 Canadian) was an alum of the NCAA Army Black Knights.
So I guess that in this case, you just call it whatever the heck you want, since you are spending the money.

People will just call them the Knights anyway. Like the Wings, Hawks, and Jackets.

I think the Black Knights is a cool name and I'd be on board with it. However it's unfortunate that we're going to get yet another dreary colorless black uniform to look at. The league did not need any more of those.

IMO all the gambling names (Gamblers, Aces, etc) sound better, but I suspect the NHL wants to avoid any connection to gambling (which has been one of the issues keeping major league sports out of Vegas for so long).

Haven't seen this posted yet:
In fairness to the owners of the National Hockey League, it must be hard to turn down free money. And particularly hard to turn down US$500-million worth of it.

"Stripped assets" and "diluted talent pool"? I think it is a safe bet that this reporter doesn't know much of anything about hockey.

Yeah, there is an excess of NHL-capable talent IMO. The talent pool is not getting hindered much IMO. There are decent players on each team that are expendable, and players that teams would happily lose due to salary, but are still good NHL players. There are going to be no players taken in the expansion draft that can't be replaced.
There are concerns with a team in Vegas, but none of them really revolve around the loss of players from other teams.
And god is this scoring issue way overblown. F***in Americans. make a goal count for 3 points if it makes you feel better.
