Gulutzan apparently one of 3 finalists for #Flames job. Randy Carlyle is another. Decision expected in next day or two. #CanucksOn1040

I'll take door number three

Also seems like a guy that knows how to make his D corps better. Actually makes a great fit for the Flames, I now understand why he is a finalist.
Nice article. I think he is our new head coach.

The following quotes from the article say it all:

"Trotz said Reirden deserves all the credit for the growth of young defensemen and called him "a really bright hockey mind." That's an opinion shared by many of his colleagues.

"I think he's one of the best teaching coaches in our game," said Bylsma, now coach of the Buffalo Sabres. "His ability to relate and teach and give players an opportunity to be better, I think he's elite at it."

Reirden's players credit him for his Xs and Os smarts, communication skills and attention to detail. Letang said he improved a lot under Reirden, Penguins left wing Chris Kunitz called him an "intellect on the power play" and Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik praised him for not dwelling on mistakes because playing the position gave him an understanding of how difficult it is.

"He's big on habits and really consistent in his approach to how he wants the game played and what he likes to see you do," Niskanen said. "He's a constant communicator. He's really good at that."

This crosses off most of the check boxes the Flames would have.

I'd be on board with Todd Reirden as the Flames coach.

I think it is taking Treliving so long because he was turned down by tbe 2 or 3 candidates who he thought would surely replace his decision to unfortunately fire Hartley.
I don't think this now is a result of Treliving being thorough it is the result of him being forced to plan C, and D which Treliving didn't think would occur.

This all sounds suspiciously familiar to the sounds that just escaped my sphincter.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but considering he said at the very beginning it was going to take a while, was out of the country for the first two weeks, and in fact did interview a lot of candidates points to things going exactly as he said from the beginning. When's the last time (outside of Dale Hunter for obvious reasons) any coach has turned down an offer to coach an NHL team?

Script sounds a lot like the Treliving hire.

Well-regarded in hockey circles.

Not a name publicly bandied about in the media.

Emerges as candidate in final days.

I really hope the new coach is Reirden. Seems like hiring Carlyle would be pretty contradictory to Treliving's statement that he wants to be more of a puck possession team.

That's what I think. I am not sold on the accuracy of Sekeres' information beyond the likely possibility that Gulutzen is a finalist. Sekeres is a Vancouver reporter who has ties to the Canucks, but I'm not sure how he would be privy to more Flames insider chatter than local Flames insiders.

I actually feel like I lost IQ points reading this.

Treliving was in Russia.
He wanted a thorough process.
His mother died.

3 excellent reasons for it to take a little longer. And all have zero to do with any speculative apocalyptic-nancyism.

I would be on board with Reirden as he is considered a good strategist and the players love him.

Please no Carlyle as he's just a fatter version of Hartley and what has Gulutzan ever done to even be considered?

Wtching that Reirden interview he has that Trelving lingo down pat. "Blah blah blah the process, yikkity yak the process"

Welcome Process coach Reirden!
All jokes aside, he sounds like a great candidate.
