It's pretty arbitrary and based off of scouting reports I believe. If a team gets hot and is in the top 10 they tend to move up. It's a difficult task, and so hard to know which team is better from league to league.

Yeah, I think it has as much meaning as "Power Rankings".

That is exactly what they are. Just scouts guessing at relative strength based on how the teams are playing.
Anyway, to underscore just how ridiculous Sportsnet is, they have the Raptors, Blue Jays and Memorial Cup tonight. All are 5 or 6 PM starts on three different channels. Yet, somehow, they couldn't do this yesterday.

Brandon's facing possible elimination if they don't win tonight. Game versus Red Deer is tied 1-1 after 3 periods.

Brandon must win to stay alive. Red Deer will be the home team in the semifinal on Friday regardless of what happens in OT.
A Brandon win forces a tiebreaker game tomorrow night, so it almost benefits the Rebels to lose the OT.

It sucks that Brandon is out, it would have been nice to hear oiler fans rave about the future face of the franchise Nolan Patrick doing so well.

Wonder what Jayce Hawryluk did to get scratched last night. He was hot garbage in the first two games, but one does not sit their best scorer in a do-or-die game without very good reason.

Wow, I didn't watch last night as was spending time with the family since I'll be in Fort McMurray for three weeks soon. Hawryluk took a lot of dumb penalties, but he had to have broken curfew or something. That's insane!

The atmosphere was pretty electric last night. I've never seen the Centrium like that before.
As cool as it was to see the place explode after Polei's goal, I was sorta-kinda hoping for a Brandon win so that we would have an extra game to watch (and I had tickets to it). It also would have been a tougher road for the Wheaties and Huskys heading into the semi-final on Friday.
Hopefully the last two wins were emotional enough to carry them into another tomorrow. London may be too powerful to overcome, but it would be incredible to see the Rebels battle for the Cup in their home rink.

A few caveats to that list - guys like Tavares and Kadri were picked up in trades and didn't play a ton with the Knights before being drafted (Tavares spent a lot more time with Oshawa than London).
They are also good at recruiting American players (won't get into whether they sweeten the pot or not). Kane and Tkachuk were only in London for 1 year before being drafted and spent time with the US development program before coming to London.
They've been a power ever since the Hunters bought the team and they moved to a new arena from the boonies.
Before the Hunters - they were typically awful. Went to a few games during this glorious season (3-60-3) - http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/l...l19891996.html

Of course they do, every team does something. It's just that some teams, like the Knights have deeper pockets, and are known as a powerhouse and a good way to the NHL.

Excuse my ignorance, but doesn't the CHL/OHL place limits on "deal sweetening"?

So does the NCAA, and they are no more effective at adequately policing it than the CHL is.
Complicating things in the OHL - and benefiting the Knights - is the fact that players there are far more likely to refuse to report to smaller market teams than they do in the WHL. Max Domi, for instance, basically told the league he was playing for London and gave both Kingston and the league no other choice.

I was at a game 7 there for Red Deer - Medicine Hat once. 2003 or 2004, I think. They broke just about every building code that exists to stuff people into that rink. It was a total gong show.

That would have been incredible to see. Rebels and Tigers games are always doozies, so I can only imagine what it's like in the playoffs.

That does happen a fair amount in the OHL and it used to be worse because team's just wouldn't pick those players since they wouldn't report and the Knights (and Spitfires and others) could just swoop them up late in the draft.
Teams now get a compensatory first round pick (one slot past where they picked the guy) plus all of the assets they get in the trade so its worth it to pick the guy.
For example - Victor Mete on this year's team was picked 8th overall by Owen Sound but wouldn't report. London traded three 2nd round picks, two 3rd round picks and a 6th for him, plus Owen Sound got the 9th overall pick in the next draft.
The pick the Frontenacs got for losing out on Domi ended up being used to pick Sam Bennett.

Have you seen him play? The last thing I'd be doing is faulty someone for raving on him.

I didn't know about any of this... I'm curious...
1. Why do these kids care which team they play for?
2. Where is their leverage?...where else would Domi play, for example, if the Frontenacs held firm?
