He's the kids agent, of course he's not going to bury his client.

Yes, and I doubt there are many people around that think Yakupov will ever make the players around him better.

But that doesn't mean he can't be a serviceable player when playing along side good players.

Well, to be fair, I don't think any agent has publically called out his client before. That would be a good way to get fired.

I actually think Virtanen isn't a terrible comparison to Yakupov. Both fairly fast players, great shots, and relatively physical (more so in Virtanen's case). Both seem to not have enough IQ, and require a good center to create offence for them. Both are what I consider complimentary players on a line - the 'third guy' on the line that you can set up for howitzers.

I think Yakupov and Baertchi are basically the shooter and playmaker versions of the same player.

Last time i checked they had almost identical points-per-game production at every level, with Yakupov leaning towards goals and Sven getting more assists.

I think Sven was a bargain for Vancouver for a 2nd rounder, and I think Yakupov would be a bargain at the same price. He's probably worth a late 1st, or another reclamation project.

I wouldn't want to trade an actual developed asset or roster player for him, however. A pick or a prospect makes more sense, since Edmonton has no hope of turning those into actual on-ice contributions.

FWIW, Spector just said on Tim & Sid that he thinks fair market value is a 4th round pick...

Oh, ouch. I don't think much of Yakupov, but if the Flames were fielding offers in the third round range for Sven before the Canucks showed up, Edmonton should be able to get at least that.

You gotta think for optics reasons alone, they try to trade Yakupov in a package with another player if all they can get is a mid-round pick.

Spector would probably have a decent idea of what the Oilers are expecting/seeing in return.

If that is the price, I would think that there would be a young, rebuilding team out there that had a dearth of RW prospects, and wasn't too near the 50 man roster limit, that would take a chance on him. A team that maybe would enjoy developing a reclamation project from Edmonton.

Wow, and he's the king of the super Oiler homers. He might be saying that so the fans will be pleasantly surprised if they get a third rounder for him.

Because we have our top ever draft pick centering a line with Ferland and Colborne as his wingers. And nothing in our system that would project as being skilled enough to replace either winger.

I'd be interested to see what Bennett can do with a player who can receive a pass while skating at pace.

Maybe that's how Edmonton saves face and gets more than a 4th?

Assuming Treliving wants Yakupov at all that is. He certainly doesn't seem scared to deal within the division.

If Treliving wants Yakupov offer them a 4th round pick.

Yakupov for Jankowski. Jankowski doesn't sign with the Oilers giving them the 51st OA pick in 2017

The Oilers would likely give up the Jankowski compensation pick to Boston for the Chiarelli compensation.

Essentially trading a 1st overall pick for a general manager.

Oh man that would be hilarious.

They might look at it like 51st will easily be the worst 2nd round pick they ever get, so what the hell?

He's gotta be worth more than that.

Trying to think of comparables from the POV of really high first rounders who were traded from their original team after largely busting.

Patrick Stefan
2006-Jun-24 Traded from Atlanta Thrashers with Jaroslav Modry to Dallas Stars for Niko Kapanen and round 7 pick in the 2006 draft (Will O'Neill)

Not apples to apples as he played a lot longer in Atlanta before being dealt.

Pavel Brendl.
2001-Aug-20 Traded from New York Rangers with Jan Hlavac, Kim Johnsson and round 3 pick in the 2003 draft to Philadelphia Flyers for Eric Lindros and conditional pick in the 2003 draft
Again not a great comparison, just because the deal he was included in had a lot of pieces

Nikita Filatov
2011-Jun-25 Traded from Columbus Blue Jackets to Ottawa Senators for round 3 pick in the 2011 draft (T.J. Tynan)

Closest comparable in a lot of ways
- parts of 3 seasons with CBJ
- issues between the player and club
- Russian

He went for a 3rd. I figure the Oil could get a 2nd, but that value could continue to drop rapidly.
