I'm assuming that it shouldn't be a problem bringing a Powerball ticket back to the USA because it is for a lottery conducted in the US.

Powerball tickets are printed in the US, not in Canada.

Although on the plus side I could afford to crush the dreams of anyone who has ever wronged me. There's that.

The story of Jack Whittaker demonstrates the potential for extreme negative consequences from big lottery wins. The coles notes is that he only actually got 1/3rd of the published prize (taxes, differences between annuity and lump sum), was inundated with hangers on and leechers, faced numerous bogus lawsuits from people trying to scam money, was stupid enough to have hundreds of thousands in cash stolen from his vechile *TWICE*, and ultimately, lost his granddaughter after she turned free money into a drug habit.

I hope a large group of people win this and change there lives for the better. I would love to play this, but it would be foolish considering my lack of employment.

Looking forward to the inevitable lawsuits that will stem from the winning ticket. The coworker who was excluded from the winning office pool, girlfriend who claims she was promised half of any win etc etc

The story of Mike Muswagon from Manitoba who hanged himself 7 years after winning ten million.
You win the lottery and everyone will be after you. Many people can't handle the stress.

Yeah, so you can enjoy the high life by yourself. With no family or friends. Sounds wonderful.
I'd cap the amount I need to be happy for the rest of my life at about $4 mil. Anything beyond that would strain the fabric of my life in ways that would mean a net loss of happiness. I like my family. I like my friends. I like my neighbourhood. I like the lifestyle I give my kids. I don't want to dramatically change all that stuff so I can have better houses and cars and more extravagant vacations.
I watched a documentary on lottery winners, and besides the predictable train wrecks (dumb poor people with terrible lifestyles blowing it all in a boozy haze), the one that made a lasting impression was a middle-class family who won tens of millions. They moved into a mansion in a community where they didn't know anybody (and where presumably they were regarded with contempt as nouveaux rich). They no longer had anything in common with their friends, who couldn't relate, and couldn't afford to go out with them. They had to cut off family who mooched. They worried about people wanting to date their kids just because they were rich. Sure, they had a nice big house and nice stuff. But they didn't strike me as especially happy. They struck me as very isolated.
Though I suppose if you hate your life already (and it seems a lot of lottery players do) you have nothing to lose anyway.

Not everyone is all hunky dory with their immediate situation like you are. Doesn't mean they hate their lives.
Don't pretend like you wouldn't want the money if it was anonymously put into your account. You just don't want to deal with the head ache of the publicity. For some people (re: most people), that head ache is worth the benefits of money no longer being an issue.

Money is no longer an issue at $4 mil. That's 30 years of earning a $250,000 annual salary (after taxes).

Hah! You should meet my wife. She could spend that in a month on random garbage, without ever putting fuel into her minivan.

$35CAD buy in (minimum of 10 - $2USD Powerball tickets plus approximately $5CAD to cover fuel and a rental car)
25 participants at a minimum (I'll buy additional tickets as more people get involved and my costs get distribute more as I'm not trying to make money off any one)
Email Money Transfers would have to be submitted by Tuesday evening (midnight)
I'll drive down Wednesday morning and email copies of the tickets once I have them
Jackpot or any winnings over $10,000 will be redeemed and distributed evenly
Any winnings under $10,000 will be redeemed for additional Powerball tickets for a future draw
What do you guys think? Any takers?

But the site is down again because the huge demand. They have to purchase actual tickets and scan them for all users, so their capacity is limited.
