Funny how there's 4 threads at the top of the board with mention of Johnny in the title.

Does anyone know for upcoming RFAs, can they be signed anytime through the final season of their ELC?

2 maybe. Or even 3. But 4 is the one term that simply won't be on the table.

I think it's 8 or it's 2.
He would still be an RFA after a 4 year deal. Players are UFA eligible after 7 accrued seasons (on the active roster for a minimum of 40 games), or if they have reached the age of 27 by June 30 of the year they become a free agent.

At the end of this year, he'll have 2 accrued seasons and be 22 years old on June 30. Under both conditions for qualifying for UFA status, he requires 5 more seasons after this one. He will be UFA eligible on July 1, 2021.

Ahh, thanks for the clarification.

So add one year to each of my numbers, but the point stands.

Spoiler!
I call b.s. Gaudreau makes anybody around him look good, he does not need any linemate to make him go far. He was going far before Monahan and him ever even met. There are certain players that are not only skilled, they seem practically magical because their natural skill for the game is unreal. Guys in the past like Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, and before this year to a lesser extent Crosby can dominate playing with anybody and make them look way better than they are. Johnny Gaudreau is like that. I am not saying Monahan is a product of JG's play because he is not, he is a very good player in his own right and every Flame fan appreciates what he brings. He is not on the same level as Johnny though.

That actually does not look at all like a serious offer.

Yeah. Not only is Hall's contract a few years old, its a contract that was more about paying for potential and less about paying for actual results.

His choice. Dollars will be pretty much what he wants.

From his standpoint, I can envision a 3-4 year deal here to get him to UFA status (and financially set), and then head out east, maybe even taking less than market value at that time, to play close to home. A lot of credit has to go to Conroy in getting him out here and convincing him back when (having the same agent helps).

That may be one of the plans; a long way away from that though...2020. A lot can change before then in his mind, the situation here etc.

Unless, I’m reading the tea leaves all wrong, Johnny Hockey will be getting a new eight-year contract in Calgary and Gaudreau, who brings people out of their seats like Kane, could legitimately ask for the same $64 million over eight years that Vladimir Tarasenko got in St. Louis after last season. But $56 million might be what the Flames are looking at.

I think Tarasenko got $60M, not $64M
