Please don't take this the wrong way, I am sincere in asking the question. .....

Is '######" a derogatory term still or has it become chic?

I see some of the "out" kids in the Hall throwing it around like black people dropping "N" bombs.

Does the term insult a gay person?

Also, which Kids in the Hall member does it for you???

edit...

wow I can't even post the FLAG minus the L word here.

like anything it is all determined by the context...you could call me "white" which I am, and say it in such a way that it would be derogatory. I mean I will get into playful name calling with my bf and will call him that and jsut be silly. I figure it's not one of those things you should be dropping all the time, and if you are referring to someone it's usaully derogatory and insulting, but yah context, hun, context.

none they all gross me out, even the boyish dave foley

Uhh "size matters" isn't too personal?
I thought it was a good question. MRC certainly hasn't shown any uncertainty in answering other personal questions.

I have a question.... I don't think it was asked yet....

I'm out with friends at a sports bar watchin' a game. A winger in his own end goes into the corner to pick up the puck, but sees, oh say, Bobby Holik barrelling in, so he tries to flip it by rather than protect the puck with his body. Holik steals, and scores. And one of my friends says "OH, THAT WAS GAY! F'N PANSY! TAKE A HIT!"

I know what he's saying. He's saying that the winger was afraid and weak. But that seems acceptable "guy speak" at the bar.

Do you find that stuff offensive? Or do you just shrug it off since most guys don't even realize they are being insulting to anyone outside of that hockey player?

Until several decades ago, the word gay meant something like "jolly" or "mirthful". In contemporary usage, however, that meaning is unusual; the term is usually synonymous with "homosexual." When referring to a group of people, the term often means "male homosexual" -- if gay women are referred to, the phrase "lesbian and gay" is often used instead.

Gay is difficult to define, however, and its connotations are context-dependent.

Some example uses:

Gay is a sexual orientation (attraction, preference, or inclination)
Gay or homosexual sex involves acts between or among people of the same sex or gender
Gay is usually chosen instead of homosexual as an identity-label by individuals
Gay is usually used to describe the "gay community" (as opposed to the "homosexual community") by both insiders and the mainstream media
When gay is used in other ways, its connotations vary widely depending on the context and speaker.
I'm sick of people getting angry about the use of the word gay, first I don't recall homosexuals getting a patent on the word, second I don't think homosexuals need lame, bitchy, annoying, loser people doing their fighting for them

just a bunch of faq's

Yep, I had two straight friends of mine (a couple actually, that didn't know they had it till it became full blown, he had gotten it and gave it to his wife) and they passed away 2 years and last year respectively. I've unfortunately had some gay friends come down with it, as well as other things.

I personally haven't had any "scares" but there have been some worriessome times as my last two bfs cheated on me big time.

Hmmmm, I really only have one question, but it's a series of questions on the same topic, so I guess it's more of a topic than a question.

- Why is it socially acceptable for straight girls to go to a "gay" bar but not straight guys?

- How many straight people do you meet at a "gay" bar?

- Is it wrong for me to hate the term "gay" bar (hence the quotes) as I think it should just be called a bar?

- How do straight guys usually react in a "gay" bar, as it's not socially acceptable to be there?

- Have you ever seen a gay guy hit on a straight guy at a gay bar? How did the straight guy handle it? How should a straight handle it, as it would undoublably be really awakward?

- If I was to become gay tomorrow could I suddenly be able to dance? :P

oh and

- what's up with the freakin' parades? If the community feels the need to have a parade by all means have a parade. But why be crude about it? I find from atleast the clips I see on TV, that it's a really crude parade, and I don't think it's acceptable for middle of the day, downtown viewing. Maybe it's just like the Montreal and Toronto parades, and they only show the crude parts on TV. But isn't the point of the parade to show awareness and that gay people are normal people too? I don't find the parade really helps clarify the stereotype. What's your thoughts on it?
