Ortio looked bad in his 2 games this year, but he looked pretty good in 8 of the previous 9 games he started. Quite disappointing he's potentially being thrown away for 2 bad starts.
I guess Gillies is the new "goalie of the future"? Maybe next year after that it will be McDonald...

Not a mystery. Look at the spread on starts in Lehtonen's rookie year.

I recently heard a rumour (so take it with a grain of salt) that when Ortio was in the AHL he was extremely lazy and would give every excuse not to practice or workout. Apparently, he'd play the "I need physio" card to get out of practices on a regular basis.
Is that true? I don't know, but if he was doing that in the NHL it explains his lack of starts, and lackluster performances.
Conversely, I heard (from the same source, but it was second hand to them as well, so again, grain of salt) that when Ramo got sent down this year, he showed up to Stockton and said "I'll do whatever it takes to get back in the NHL, tell me what I have to do and I'll do it".
He gets called back up and is playing well as of late (not saying amazing but decently well).
Now Ortio is getting sent down.
Perhaps this is the kick in the pants that Ortio needs?
Again, second hand source which may very well be wrong.

Chill CP. Ortio clears, will play games in Stockton, and if he plays well we will probably see him again in Calgary.

While I don't disagree with your statement and this might be OT, I don't get how it has happened so fast. Less than 6 months ago we were all dancing in the streets. In theory they should be better, there has been no real line up deletions, and arguably there were line improvements.
I am at a loss to why they Le Suck so much.

Hartley. Teams adjusted, things aren't going well yet he has zero answers.
Shoot him out of a cannon.

Yet why?
Did he get hit in the head at a charity softball event?
He goes from Jack Adams winner to cannon fodder?

I think the amount of time we've invested in him, and more importantly, his performance last season, warranted more than two starts this year.

I'm getting a sense that Treliving and Hartley aren't on the same wavelength about a lot of things. Goaltending is one of them.

May be Ortio asked to be waived. Bored to sit and wants to play somewhere.

Brad apprenticed on a shoe string budget team that has been rebuilding for a long time through the draft rather then big free agency acquisitions. He knows that this team isn't going to get where it needs to go overnight and there's going to be peaks and valleys where patience is required. The head coach has always had a win now at all costs mentality. No surprise they would be on different pages here.

Sounds he is more similar to a previous Fin we had in net. I love the story of Kipper at the WJ training camp and him and Toskola hid in a blueberry bush and ate blueberries rather than running up the mountain with the rest of the team.
The biggest problem with this situation is the expectations on the club and Ortio just not having the trust of the coaching staff. As long as the Flames are within striking distance of a playoff spot I don't think Ortio will get the leeway Ramo does.

I am glad Ortio is on waivers finally. Hartley has zero interest in letting the kid play and as a developing goalie he needs the games. It's been such a waste of development time this year. And that's been the infuriating part for me.
I hope that Ortio gets lots of ice time wherever he happens to end up tomorrow.
What a disappointing mess.

Hard to see him get claimed unless a team doesn't want to upset their AHL team and uses him as a warm body for a few games in which case we get him back after that little rental is over.
I obviously prefer to see Ramo waived, cut or just sent home but that isn't going to happen.
I doubt Ortio has much of a future as an NHL starter and he certainly hasn't shown any reason why he should still be in the NHL but neither has Ramo so between the two I would have preferred the small chance Ortio can turn out over the 0% chance that Ramo does.
Oh well he goes down to Stockton where they need help and hopefully can gain some confidence and work on his game, which needs a lot of work.

Maybe he wasn't really responsible for the success last year. Or he was a one trick pony.

How do we go from "we could of put Roy in his prime in net and we would of got lit up" to Ortio had two bad games and it's all fault. As I recall it many of the goals were high chance area ones. Sure he let in 2-3 weak goals over those two starts but Ramo and Hiller both did the same and more often.

They actually gave no chance for Ortio to succeed. They threw him to the wolves. Calgary was a mess and still is a mess defensively, no goalie can succeed.
"Hey Ortio, we've been horrible but I think you're our savior, go and fix our defensive issues, we'll give you 1 or 2 games tops."
