Not a bad analysis IMO. I feel this sort of outlines why outright benching might actually do him more good than just cutting his icetime.
He doesn't need minor adjustments and his problems are not in effort. He looks like he needs to snap out of something. A benching sometimes helps in that.

He's the captain of the hockey team. You don't bench your captain. If he can't snap out of it through whatever means necessary, be it will and determination or be it by relaxing a bit, then that's a real leadership problem.
I believe he will revert to form very soon.

If it's a rookie struggling then a benching makes sense, but a seasoned veteran like Giordano is likely not going to gain much more perspective from the press box. Watching video will help him understand where the problems lie.

Lanny and Peplinski were co-captains. In game 6 of the Final, Peplinski sat in the press box because other players demonstrated they were better choices to be on the ice. It's not a punishment or an insult, and if you're a leader one of the ways you lead is by showing that you can take the same treatment as anyone else on the team.
I'm not saying he should sit. But if he does, it's not unprecedented, and it's not an insult.

Actually, I think Crisp made the choice for Lanny to play just because he wanted him on the ice for the win. Peplinksi was a better player, and Lanny had been benched earlier.
But that was a whole different secenario - two Captains playing the same position, and Lanny was almost a figurehead captain by that time, not like Gio, who was the best player on the team the year before.

Make your cases for Gio sitting if you want, but don't compare it to the Lanny situation in 89. Like many have said, Lanny was not the go-to man on that team despite being a co captain. Gio is, or was, the best player on this team and the sole captain.
I don't see a case for benching him.

It looks to me that Gio has been out of sync to start this season. What he needs is more playing time not less and a little confidence boost. I thought he was okay against the Sharks and he's gradually putting it together again.
Right now the whole team is in a funk starting with weak goaltending and it's just compounded up and down the lineup. Normally you'd say the captain needs to be the one to settle things down but he's got his own problems with his rustiness after the injury. His game relies on timing and good quick decision making. That just requires some time to get it down again.
Patience friends.

Gio is going to catch Seguin coming down the wing with a bone crunching hit, turn the puck up ice and Johny sets up Ferland for a momentum swing tonight

Yeah, I mean, easily. If the decision is made to trade him Treliving would be fired if that's the return.
