I feel bad for the owner's kid, to be honest. Unless he's a dbag kid driving this, but somehow, I doubt it.

"How'd the forfeit go, Spazway?"

"Yeah, did you score?"

"Leave me alone guys, I don't even want to talk about the team."

"Oh that's right, owner's pet. Everyone knows he likes you best."

"Likes his mom you mean."

No. The owner's kid sided with his teammates the first time around.

Do feel bad for him though. Branch really needs to step in at this point. Like right now.

If I won the powerball, I would have done the same thing.

Except it would have been an NHL team. And I'd place myself on it not my kid, and I'd make myself player-coach so I don't have to worry about ice time

i have been told this is how teams in the top div's of the Metro toronto Hockey LEague work. Dads buy the teams and then flip them when thier son moves on. Seems odd, but I guess it makes it easier to keep top kids together

This guy just seems to have taken it up a notch and bought an OHL for his kid to play on. Will be curious to see if he sticks with the team when his kid graduates.

In a lot of cases the kid ends up quitting hockey.

Tucker Hunter - son of Dale Hunter with London Knights - http://www.lfpress.com/sports/knight...43886-sun.html

Connor Burgess - son of Mark Burgess with Sudbury Wolves
http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/oh...s-in-95-games/

In some cases it works out - There's been a ton of Hunter related players in London, the Folingo brothers played in Sudbury where their dad was part of the team management. Kerby Rychel played on his dad's team (although they did have to trade for him and then traded him away as well).

They have a game scheduled tonight and no coach (Kharin was supposed to be the interim coach). Will be interesting to find out the rest of the story.

EDIT: Should have probably proof read the statement. Ontario League instead of Ontario Hockey League.

So if anyone wants to buy an OHL team on the cheap, now would probably be the time.

I feel bad for the players. Their future livelihoods are being put at risk because of a moron of an owner.

The lack of details around this latest situation is a little unnerving. Saying this relates to the health & well being of the players, and counselling is being provided to them makes me think this is more than just the owner's kid getting more than his fair share of ice time.

That's how I see it. Sounds like some sort of criminal-like disgusting behaviour is part of the untold story.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
OHL Commissioner Dave Branch en route to Flint. Will meet with players, lay out plan to them. If all goes well, Flint will play tonight.

You could be right, but I doubt it. IMO this is just the OHL doing damage control. If it was more sinister than that I think we would have heard about it by now, seeing as so much leaked out the first time.

The running of this particular franchise has been disgraceful and obviously been proven to be a huge mistake by the OHL to sell a team to this owner.

You have parents of players threatening not to return next year or even stop playing games right now. I have also seen a few more calls for Major Junior players to unionize after this latest situation.

The OHL has to do all it can to show it is supporting its players in a "crisis" that doesn't seem to do anything with the players. If a good chunk of Flint's best players don't return next year, the franchise essentially becomes worthless. You also have the optics for parents of future and current players considering the OHL watching how this plays out and could impact their decision on whether to play in the OHL or not.

Just a disaster for the OHL.

This is at least 10x crazier than anything the Flames have done this season, so there's that.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
OHL's senior director of hockey operations Joe Birch will be taking over control of hockey ops of Flint Firebirds, effectively running team.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Joe Birch will be on bench tonight when Flint plays Erie but head coach is Joe Stefan, who will be assisted by former NHLer Pat Peake.
