Surprised people are defending Ramo! [...] Besides that he played well I guess.
That's probably why they're defending him. Some statements in this topic have been that Ramo did nothing of value.
Ramo made some decent saves and let up a stinker. A highlight performance? No. But a passing grade of any variety is still a heck of a lot better than other nights where seemingly every and any opportunity made it past #1, 31, or 37. Or any combination of the above.

Which are still the baby steps the Flames need to take. Not losing is already better than many previous games afforded. The fact that the Flames didn't seem all too happy with the victory probably means they know they can be better and the result should have been better. Now they can build on that to playing something resembling 2014-2015 Flames hockey.

Tonight is sort of the bare minimum I expect from an verge NHL goalie. He was fine, bad goal, but whatever. But this type of average goaltending would have got us 4-5 more wins.

Backlund had a really solid game tonight and that's without considering his two points. Good job defensively against the Giroux line.
Win is a win and I'd prefer they eke out a close one like tonight where they played well defensively, than win a 6-5 goal fest. Really hoping this is what the team needed to turn things around.
Thought I'd check out the PGT after a desperately needed win by a confidence challenged Flames team. Wow, some in here are doing some serious grasping for every possible negative. Should have seen this coming when I saw a thread about firing Hartley just a month into the season this morning. This board is depressing me more than the Flames are these days.

They got the win but hard to be too optimistic with the way it was won.
The 1 goal against isn't really a reflection of how well the Flames played defensively, it is more a reflection of how bad the Flyers are that they did not score more.
Flames are still making really really dumb decisions on the ice. Most of the time, you are watching a Flames player with the puck and thinking in your head, "hmm, it would be really stupid to put the puck that way", and BOOM, that's exactly what they do.
I don't know what it is, I guess it's a confidence thing, because it's just stupid play after stupid play, and maybe a bit of a lack of concentration. It's not just isolated to any one or two players, it's systematic. Maybe the only players who are immune are Brodie and Grant. Every other player is just prone to making the wrong play.

Vinny and Manning. Such **** ups. How do you go from being a healthy scratch for 8 games, to third line, and powerplay minutes. Wake the **** up Hakstol. Vinny is NOT an NHL player anymore. ****.

pretty sure i had smoke coming out of my ears after that goal

watching lecavalier play hockey is like leaving the window open by accident while showering on a cold winter morning and forgetting your towel

This team is so slow that we literally can't go forward. Vinny tried skating up the ice and the entire Flames line caught up to him. He had no other option but to toss a blind backhander into our own zone. LMA****ingO

You're Ramo, Ramo. Don't do that. Just be you.

It got them to the 2nd round off the playoffs last year. It won't win you the cup but if you can make the playoffs consistently through a rebuild that is really a good sign. I just hope it continues to get better as the season progresses.

I have zero illusions that we have or were thought to have had above average goaltending. 9.10-9.20 save percentage which is 2ish goals a night. Those are winnable games.
Lecavalier cost them a goal but what do Philly fans expect? He is not a 20 something anymore. He is 35 hes not the same player he was at 21 when he won the cup. Then I remembered they were Philly fans .
Ramo stopped 26/27 shots. That's a .963 SV%. Despite the weak goal those are good numbers and I have no issues saying Ramo was pretty good tonight. I can't believe people are criticizing him tonight. For once, goaltending was the least of our concerns.

If Ramo can get to even just where he was last year we have a slim chance of getting back into the big show. People will agrue Hiller had more starts but forget Ramo has faced injuries mid way through each season he has been here from players driving the net that screw with how mny games they start. Hiller simply got more starys last year because ramo was injured 3 to 4 weeks then returned nd went on a tear down the stretch.

I recently watched all the game highlights from this week and weak goals happen in about 90% of all games played.

I'm sorry to nitpick like this but he was 24 at the time, not 21. But yeah, he has really fallen off a cliff in recent years. And they have him locked up for another two seasons after this one!
