Wideman should be bottom pairing at even strength with top powerplay minutes.

I'd like to see Scrivens get a PTO, just to see if he can channel some sort of Dubnyk post-Oiler greatness.
Heck, I would take Leland Irving right now... It's not like he could be any worse!?!

TJ Brodie is amazing. Team loses 6-3 and he is still a +3.

Scrivens is still under contract with the Oilers, he's in the AHL right now.

Most, if not all, of that is coming from one poster who is bitter about them being hired so I would ignore that.

Yup. And what's really baffling is how awful he's become in such a short span. This guy was an absolute stud for us last season after Gio went down, especially in the playoffs.

Worst part is that there wasn't a gun to Trelivings head to get the deal done. It's not like a young player where you are paying for future potential as we all realize last season was likely his career season. At Giordano's age it really would have been more prudent to see how he was playing on the last year of the deal. Not much can be done now as they have to hope he turns things around and plays better for at least the first few years of the deal before the contract becomes a boat anchor. There's always the possibility that the next CBA will bring with it another round of compliance buyouts which may line up for the Flames.

You can believe, but what I said is true. The Flames will need to win approximately 65% of their games moving forward to make the playoffs. That kind of winning percentage is equal to that of last years Predident Trophy winner and it wasn't an unusual percentage for the leagues top team.
The Flames laterally need to post the leagues best wining ratio to make it now.

The real question is why you have flames goalies on your fantasy team

These suggestions that Treliving needs to do something fast to save the season are misplaced. The season is gone, and wasn't one that should have been one on the list for saving regardless. This young team overachieved last year and it was magical, but the last thing we should do is anything designed around getting results this year, this team simply isn't ready yet.
|
i don't think the season is lost quite yet, but it is very close. That said they have to do something about the goalie situation for this year. They can't go a whole year with this crap. Getting a #1 pick is nice and all , but you don't want to take that far of a step back and start again from scratch next year. Also i would have to think players will shut out Hartley by X-mas if this keeps going on. Which means he will be gone.
Yes there are a lot of things wrong with this team other than goaltending , but goaltending is now the #1 issue. It needs to be adressed this season for the players sake. They can't be deflated for the next 6 months because of bad/meh goaltending.

I am amazed that some people can look at the 46 shots against and think that the Flames didn't dominate.
Here's a tip: the Avs were shooting from everywhere because the Flames' goalies have been struggling!
And it worked.
But that does not change the fact that the Flames dominated.
And I find it interesting that several of the people making those comments are also strong supporters of advanced stats. Hey guys: try watching the game.

Where can you find the shot tracker to see where the majority of shots came from (slot, perimter?)

He'll be an anchor in 3 years time? How do you know this? So he's played pretty poorly by his standards so far this season. Who's to say that come the new year he doesn't snap out of it? Who's to say that come next season(providing he stays healthy), he doesn't get back to his old levels?
Why will a 34 year old Gio in 3 years not be at a pretty decent level still? There are scores of d-men doing really well at 34 and older. Really not sure why you seem to think this is it for Gio, a slow and steady decline to a point in 3 years where he is a anchor on the team. Bizarre comment.

I think it's pretty well certain that goaltending is a serious issue.
The problem with that is the Flames are not in a position to be making a trade to help the team win now. Pretty much any trade we'd be involved in to bring a goalie to Calgary would likely be a bad bet. I think team defence is an issue as well, and a new goalie might not even help that much.
We got average goaltending from Ramo and Hiller last season. While they may not be enough this year, it looks like the Flames' record is too far off to do any damage anyway. I have a hard time believing that all of our goalies just forgot how to play over the off-season.
I say wait it out, and hope somebody takes advantage.
I just wish the draft lottery rules didn't change this season.

To those that think the playoffs are a possibility what exactly have you seen in any game this season that leads you to believe they are close to turning the corner? The way they are playing defense it's a major stretch to think that they are going to over night tighten up things considerably and the goaltenders will all of a sudden start making saves. It just looks like one of those teams that the entire season goes south.

I could be wrong but aren't the flames 5-6 points out of a playoff spot? Not sure how they have to go 65% wins for rest of season to make up 6 points?
