It's been a consistent issue for a long time now. Load times lag like never before, daily.
Site won't even load a couple of times a day.

I thought initially it was my internet but everything else I frequent loads and works fine.

So finding out from Vox (who hosts CP), that there was a denial of service attack from Germany tonight which aligned quite suspiciously with the game, causing the slow load times and outages.

Which lines up with what I was observing, the servers were not under load and were loafing along, but I could hardly get into them to see what was going on.

I don't have much else in terms on information, their networking engineers are looking at things, and I've suggested the possibility of looking at other days to see if it's something that's been going on intermittently for a while.

Honestly kind of surprised this kind of thing hasn't happened before (or maybe it has).

Insanely slow again just now.

Probably took about 5 minutes to load this page.

Was happening for me the last bit, the database was waiting for a query that referenced a really old post. Looked at what was looking at those really old posts, some of it looks a little unusual, some of it looks like normal search engine stuff.

What would people think about moving some old posts in the an archie subforum that was only available to registered users?

Or could be because we're getting flooded with dozens of requests per second from Tapatalk from the FutureShop in Lloydminster.

There's a Future Shop in Lloydminster? There's a Future Shop anywhere?

LOL some evil hacker has taken over an empty futureshop and has nothing better to do with his time but send tapatalk queries to a hockey forum.

Sounds like it should be the subplot to the upcoming John Scott movie.

Better than the DDoS from Germany last night..

I think that's just the Tapatalk app is borked sometimes and generates a few dozen requests in the span of a few seconds, I doubt it's intentional.

I can confirm that the Future Shop is gone, it's now a Best Buy. I'm in Lloydminster tomorrow morning, maybe I need to go in there and raise a ruckus.

I've migrated the ad server over to the new servers as a first step onto the new servers. The DNS change may take up to a day to propagate. The switch should be seamless.

Had a quick update from Vox, apparently the denial of service attacks are intermittent but continuing, changing as they are mitigated. I don't think we know for sure if it's CP specifically they're targeting or someone else. So slowness due to that can still happen intermittently.

I thought I'd wade into the conversation as this has begun to spread as a hot topic.

As Photon indicated, there is definitely a DDoS attack going on, and there has been for a while. It's not large enough to register at the carrier level, but it is large enough to have a big impact on CP performance. The impact is worse during games, but shows up periodically at other times. The tech teams suspect the attack is scaled intentionally to stay under the radar but still impact performance, but I really don't know whether it is that sophisticated.

We've been working quite hard to block this but identifying the party responsible is pretty much impossible at this point. We have some thoughts, but they are just theories.

I'd like to ask for everyone's patience. My team wanted to keep this low key so we don't encourage whomever is responsible. We feel giving them satisfaction will encourage them. But things recently blew up to a point that exceeded low key , so felt I should post here and give you the straight goods. There are a lot of people putting in a lot of effort to get us our hockey news as fast as possible, and a lot of those people, such as Photon himself, are doing this on their own time. Thanks and kudos to them all.

You guys do a great job, I wouldn't sweat it, the fix will happen.

My other site (cheap plug cflhorsemen.ca) got hammered with a lot of denial service attacks and we were forced to move to a more secure server site with a better admin staff and we haven't had down time in a couple of years.

But I know how annoying it is when you go to log in and nothing works.

Good luck guys

Haha I was thinking the same thing when photon said a DDoS was from Germany a few days ago. Maybe that certain former poster enlisted the help of his countrymen!

You're German aren't you Locke? Convince them to stop! You can't let your people choose the wrong side for the 3rd time.

Oh, I think my influence is overstated, we are hearing the noise of their internet jackboots.

They are electronically goose-stepping over CP. Cant be helped.
