I do get why the Flames brought Ramo back, needed another NHL capable goalie.

I wished we had went with Neurvirth instead of Ramo at the time, and with the results in Philly it is looking like a smart move.

Finally, I wish they didn't sign him to begin with, it was obviously a poor decision in hindsight. Though it was only a one year deal so no long term damage. Hopefully Hiller and Ortio can get into a groove now.

It is encouraging that he's taking steps to correct the situation. But it's still a situation that was entirely his own doing. This isn't a contract that Treliving inherited, or one he offered when the team was an unknown to him and he wanted flexibility and options to assess. This is the first mis-step that is squarely on Treliving.

No idea what to think of this... Hiller has been just as bad so far. And the D infront of them isn't either them any favors. Something had to be done, just have no idea...

Wouldn't surprise me to see him back in the KHL soon. I'm guessing he won't be excited to play in the AHL for the remainder of the season.

At this point, I was hoping both were waived, just bring up Ortio/Gillies and say #### it, lets go. Both ramo/hiller are pretty ####

I think signing Ramo at the time was a good decision. Let the two goalies fight it out to see who can handle the pressure. The trouble is neither one could handle the pressure which is a big knock against two athletes who think they are NHL calibre goalies. Anyways it looks like it has been settled by default as to who is the worse and maybe Hiller can settle down now with this vote of confidence.

Ramo going down to Stockton is the best result for our depth issues at goalie. I hope Ortio can show he's a consistent NHL goalie and ready for the challenge but if not, he'd probably pass through waivers as well.

While I'm glad the situation got resolved, there's no guarantee Ortio is going to be any better.

The team is a mess right now. It's a tough situation for a rookie goalie to come in.

Pretty good? He was pretty average as an NHLer. I know he's your fellow countryman but lets not sugar coat last seasons play and completely ignore his atrocious play this season.

This season he looks like Berra did 2 years ago. Makes some great saves then depletes all momentum by giving up bad rebounds and bad goals. And now Berra is in the NHL and Ramo is about to be out the door.

Logically this is incorrect. Hiller was competing with 3 goalies and now he's competing with 2. You can argue that he was only competing with Ramo before, but than this can be considered 2 rounds of a competition.

Hiller 'wins' the first round and a new challenger approaches. This round has less on the line as it's for who will be starter/backup. Not who is going to be shipped to Stockton to travel by bus instead of plane in a lower league to slowly become irrelevant and have little hope of signing an NHL contract next season.

I think this is a huge step in the right direction. The three goalie plan was a major distraction for the tenders. I believe that a goalie needs a certain level of comfort without the thought of being waived constantly on your mind.

Now that it's two tenders, they get to focus solely on their own play. Once they are focused on their play and start actually playing better, the team in front of them will play more focused and confident.

I believe it's as simple as this and we'll see an immediate turn around in the level of play starting tomorrow.

If the flames were not sold on Ortio then signing Ramo made some sense on July 1st. The part that never made sense to me was him getting $3.8 million?

Count me as one who thinks Hiller over Ramo is the right decision (of a couple of poor choices right now). I firmly believe Hiller plays better more often than Ramo. I do think Ramo's best game is maybe a little better than Hiller's, but it shows up much less often and is more prone to bad goals.

Also, if Ortio is now going to be here, I think Hiller, who has actually had a reasonable NHL career to date and been a consistent starter at times likely has more to share with our young goalie.

Most people believed Ramo could reasonably get a deal on the open market at the time and the Flames wanted the security of having a 2nd NHL capable goalie. So they offered him bigger money with the flexibility of a one year contract.

Carte Blanche on the budget man. Treliving was an internal cap GM in Arizona. Like a drunken sailor.

From listening to Ramo speak after signing, it seems like he may have had a couple short term deal offers from other teams. Maybe the Flames had to bump their price a bit to compete more with other offers, paying a small premium to get a guy they know and who has good relations with the team already.

Still say it was the right move, I had thought/hoped Ramo could solidify himself over Hiller for a few reasons: I think Hiller would have had more trade value (although by the looks of things neither was getting any return); I personally think Ramo is better; and I think having another Finn would be good for Ortio's transition (although Hiller has a good amount more NHL experience).

But it was getting to the point where it didn't matter, just pick one. Kind of surprised they picked the younger cheaper one.

Ask yourself if you would honestly feel comfortable with Ramo + Ortio over Hiller + Ortio.

Although neither is ideal, there's a reason Hiller has been in the NHL for a long time and Ramo was just pulled off the scrap heap.

Pulled off the scrap heap might be a bit harsh, but yeah I agree. If you asked me at the end of last season I would have said yes, but seeing how things have gone, I would stick with Hiller as well.

To be honest, I really believe Ortio is better than both of them and will show to be a significant upgrade on either. So I guess my opinion also includes my thought that either one was going to quickly become the back up.
