Too many passes. Poirier has to pull the trigger there.

Well, if that's any indication of what 3-on-3 will be like, we won't be seeing very many shootouts this season.

I can't wait to see Brodie, Gaudreau, Giordano, Backlund, Monahan, Russell, Hamilton, Bennett, Byron at 3 on 3.

I thought if anyone would show fight in this tournament, it'd be Roy.

You can't let a player slide through you like that if you're fighting for a contract. Take a penalty even.

Guys that impressed this game:

Mangipane
Gillies
Arnold
Kylington
Klimchuk

Very disappointed in Morrison, had high hopes for him today.

There is a ton of coaching and systems that need to be developed with this 3 on 3 overtime. I can't imagine we will see too many of the third men in going deeper than the top of the circle. That seemed very risky and it ended up with a breakaway for vancouver.

Complete lack of effort from Roy there, both in Vancouver's end at the beginning of the play, letting Virtanen get away. Then even worse at the end, just giving up and letting Virtanen go.

Capping off a pretty unimpressive game for him.

Anyone who questioned Treliving not giving a contract to Roy shouldn't be questioning it any longer.

My best Flames of the tournament by position

Forward: Mangiapane (not close)
Defence: Andersson
Goal: Gillies

Not a great game from Roy. Really liked Mangiapane again. Klimchuk looked good as did Gillies and Schneider.

Kylington best Dman by far. Looked pretty sound defensively too besides the offensive upside. Lightning fast and smooth. Crisp passes too. I think we have three A prospects on D with Andersson and Hickey.

Rest of dmen turning over the puck way too much. Seiloff running out of time.

I liked Morrisson RH point shot but he is not ready for NHL yet. There is potential there though.

Offensively, Poirier is starting to worry me. No finish around net. Did he get any points in this tournament? I do not see him cracking the Flames lineup yet.

Arnold solid (NHL time likely this year).

Mangiapane always creating something out there (fantastic 6th rounder).

Klimchuk not that noticable but has a quick shot. AHL for sure.

Don't take a rookie tournament too seriously. These are the first games these guys are playing without one practice on the ice as a team. Poirier had a very solid rookie season in the AHL last year. No points in this tournament doesn't mean he suddenly has no finish.

I have to agree with the assessment of Roy. Guy just doesn't seem to have anything I'd want in a defenseman. He's big, but skates worse than Kanzig. He might have a good shot, but he'll never get it off when you need him to. He makes horrible decisions in his own zone and doesn't seem to ever know where his man is. Not to mention absolutely no hustle whatsoever. The guy just doesn't seem to have his heart in playing hockey. Offering the tryout was the right move to see what he could do in terms of summer training, but I see absolutely no point in even giving him an AHL deal if that's what he has to offer.
