Finally, best decision she made as CEO... when you have over 240k people on a community you run publicly calling for your head, you've done something wrong.

The big problem is that instead of apologizing or trying to fix what she screwed up she basically said "lol I don't care".

The original founder of Reddit is back as CEO after 5 years.
Ellen Pao resigned from reddit today by mutual agreement. I'm delighted to announce that Steve Huffman, founder and the original reddit CEO, is returning as CEO.
We are thankful for Ellen’s many contributions to reddit and the technology industry generally. She brought focus to chaos, recruited a world-class team of executives, and drove growth. She brought a face to reddit that changed perceptions, and is a pioneer for women in the tech industry. She will remain as an advisor to the board through the end of 2015. I look forward to seeing the great things she does beyond that.
We’re very happy to have Steve back. Product and community are the two legs of reddit, and the board was very focused on finding a candidate who excels at both (truthfully, community is harder), which Steve does. He has the added bonus of being a founder with ten years of reddit history in his head. Steve is rejoining Alexis, who will work alongside Steve with the new title of “cofounder”.
A few other points. Mods, you are what makes reddit great. The reddit team, now with Steve, wants to do more for you. You deserve better moderation tools and better communication from the admins.
Second, redditors, you deserve clarity about what the content policy of reddit is going to be. The team will create guidelines to both preserve the integrity of reddit and to maintain reddit as the place where the most open and honest conversations with the entire world can happen.
Third, as a redditor, I’m particularly happy that Steve is so passionate about mobile. I’m very excited to use reddit more on my phone.
As a closing note, it was sickening to see some of the things redditors wrote about Ellen. [1] The reduction in compassion that happens when we’re all behind computer screens is not good for the world. People are still people even if there is Internet between you.
If the reddit community cannot learn to balance authenticity and compassion, it may be a great website but it will never be a truly great community. Steve’s great challenge as CEO [2] will be continuing the work Ellen started to drive this forward.
[1] Disagreements are fine. Death threats are not, are not covered under free speech, and will continue to get offending users banned.
Ellen asked me to point out that the sweeping majority of redditors didn’t do this, and many were incredibly supportive. Although the incredible power of the Internet is the amplification of voices, unfortunately sometimes those voices are hateful.
[2] We were planning to run a CEO search here and talked about how Steve (who we assumed was unavailable) was the benchmark candidate—he has exactly the combination of talent and vision we were looking for. To our delight, it turned out our hypothetical benchmark candidate is the one actually taking the job.

Step 1: Decide you want to make some changes that will really piss people off.
Step 2: Bring in divisive figure as interim CEO - aka the fall guy.
Step 3: Make the changes and let the interim CEO take MASSIVE heat for it.
Step 4: Have the interim CEO resign unceremoniously.
Step 5: Bring in the CEO you actually wanted to calm the users (but maintain course).

If her terrible ideas were the plan all along then they could be in for some real trouble in the future. After the Victoria firing the most vocal userbase were clamoring to use something else, with voat.co being the leading candidate. Problem is it was a brand new site and couldn't handle the traffic, so it couldn't instantly replace reddit. Now however they've beefed up their infrastructure and their userbase has spiked. The next time reddit screws up they could start to permanently lose their users like what happened to digg

The first exodus to voat after FPH got banned kinda prepped them for this one. Is this the beginning of the end for Reddit? Probably not.

^That's how it looks to me, anyway. To be clear, I'm no fan of hers, but I have a hard time believing that Pao was the driving force behind all (maybe some, but not all) of the events leading to this point - the board, however, is another story.

Not really, since Voat got hugged to death all the same. If there was no change in direction at Reddit after this last screw-up, then Voat could have won with some massive server infrastructure. Problem is, that costs a lot of money, and Voat doesn't know how it intends to pay for it all.

Former Reddit CEO Yishan Wong is having a goddamn ball this week, bouncing around announcement threads and spilling site secrets to his heart’s content. His latest big reveal: Reddit’s board has been itching to purge the site of users’ precious hate-based subreddits since the beginning. And recently, the only thing stopping them had been... Ellen Pao. Whoops.

Well, when things were heating around the /r/creepshots[3]thing and people were calling for its banning, I wrote to him to ask for advice. The very interesting thing he wrote back was “back when I was running things, if there was anything racist, sexist, or homophobic I’d ban it right away. I don’t think there’s a place for such things on reddit. Of course, now that reddit is much bigger, I understand if maybe things are different.”

In closing, Wong issues a warning to the Reddit community that was successful in ousting Pao in the wake of the Victoria Taylor scandal. Just after saying that Huffman now "has the moral authority" to purge the "ugly side" of the site, he closes his piece by adding "We tried to let you govern yourselves and you failed, so now The Man is going to set some Rules. Admittedly, I can't say I'm terribly upset."

The further MRAs and PUAs are pushed to the fringes of the web, the better.

"Pick-up Artists". It is basically a theory that the best way to attract and use women is to tear them down psychologically. Essentially, guys who's strategy for relating with women is about one step away from sexual assault. It's often an extremely distorted version of "nice guys finish last", and is often popular with guys who finished last.

That letter by Yishan is fantastic. Let the purge commence!
Whomever has a problem with them shutting down the garbage sections of reddit can go frack themselves with something hard and sandpapery, as far as I am concerned.
I was watching a thread a couple of days ago where a girl's uncle posted up her book vlog to get her some morale support from the community. Her youtube page was quickly filled with human garbage telling her to kill herself, and relentlessly mocking her weight. It was absolutely vile. I cannot believe people are so twisted as to defend that disgusting behaviour in the name of free speech.
Kudos to Mr. Wong!

One who falsely presents themselves as a person of worth by utilizing social manipulation techniques to acquire physical intimacy from those of the opposite sex. (pick up artist)
One of the more popular routines is if anyone has ever done the cube with you.
