That was a very atypical game for the Flames, and I believe we are capable of playing much better against the Ducks. In order to do this, I think we need to:
1. shake the intimidation by playing to our strengths i.e. speed and skill
2. be better at faceoffs
3. try to match their physicality
4. control the front of our net more effectively
5. block our usual number of shots
6. forecheck and backcheck like there's no tomorrow
7. get someone in front of their goalie

I guess it's good we have until sunday to reevaluate our injuries...Not liking our chances whatsoever but this is a great stepping stone. We know what we have to work on now, and honestly it's trying to get the marquee BIG physical forwards that also know how to skate. A rare commodity but let's hope we use our picks well and a guy like Hunter Smith pans out.

I thought Shore, Jooris and Bollig had a pretty good game, Colborne was probably the Flames' best forward. I think what happened tonight was they had a pretty good start to the game, one of they're better first periods, but a couple mistakes like Brodie and Engelland being unable to clear, miscoverages or a ridiculous pass by Getzlaf gave the Ducks confidence.
I'd bet Ferland has a concussion. If he's out and assuming Hudler's in (which is a big assumption) I'd go this
Gaudreau -Monahan - Hudler
Bennett - Backlund - Colborne
Bollig - Jooris - Shore
Wolf - Stajan - Jones
I'd go back to Hiller but with a very short leash

Say they go down 0-2 and win the next two at home.
It's really not that impossible.

The team wasn't itself. I want to see the Flames play Flames hockey and lose before making premature judgments on the series as a whole.
They whooped the Ducks 6-3 in the last regular season meeting. they know how to beat this team. I just think the young players got rusty and over excited sitting for a week, and forgot how hard it was gonna be. now you have your dose of reality and can prepare properly. though if only they could treat the Honda Center like it were the Dome. there's something about that building....

I would love to take Mr smurk Getzlaf/cheap shot Perry and throw them in a deep dark hole somewhere.

I honestly think the Ducks have a great team but this game didn't show Ducks' elite performance, it just showed a tired Flames squad. Any team would have kicked our ass tonight. I thought/hoping that our slow start would bounce back like game 1 against the Canucks but my heart didn't see it in them and none of their hearts did either.

thought the flames had an ok first period but the flames simply had NO answer for the duck's cycle. i wonder if they were using the tactic of patience against the sedins too much here, where they weren't aggressive enough to break the cycle in my opinion. nucks/ducks are both great cycling teams, but the ducks are much more aggressive when it comes to eventually bullrushing bodies/pucks to the net.
i'd expect a better game 2 from the flames.
folks are forgetting the ducks are an Elite team, that has been favoured to win the cup since september. they have been built to beat the kings/hawks/blues in the playoffs. Credit to them, thought they looked great last night.
Hoping the flames injuries are nothing really serious.

The Ducks' gameplan is pretty apparent: intimidate the Flames' top line and wear down the top three defencemen.
So far we've not had a glimpse of what Calgary's gameplan is, other than prevent the Ducks from executing theirs.
If the Ducks know that they can take Gaudreau out of the game by keying on him physically it is only just going to reinforce their plan. I'm sure they'll be chirping to him about his benching next game also. Monahan might as well have been on the bench too, he was equally neutralised.
So do you break up the top line chemistry (might not have a choice if Hudler is out) and put Johnny on a line with some bigger linemates, or risk putting him back in the same situation?

You shut them up by making them fish it out of their net.
If Hudler can't go that becomes that much harder.
And yeah - if so you break up Monahan and Gaudreau.
Sometimes lessons are learned in very hard ways - hope this isn't one of those times.

Sorry to pick your post to begin my rant, it's certainly not just you....where did all the faith go in this team? It's one game!! The Flames played mediocre defensively and had a shaky goalie. Not a recipe to beat anyone on the road, let alone the Ducks. People already saying the series is over though is absolute garbage! It's 1 game!!!! Even if they lose the next game, no series is over until you lose on home ice, no losses on home ice guarantees you a coin flip Game 7.
Relax people.

Had a friend just chirp me who is an Oilers fan (yeah, I know, he's not a great friend). His one word text was "quack". My response, "Meh, game one of round two. Are you golfing with the Oil?"

Left some goals on the ice.
Anaheim was the better team and deserved the win, but we were out goaltended. If the Flames get a typical Hiller/Ramo performance last night and bury their chances they are in the game. Lots of forwards on this team with Tanguayitis right now. Stop overpassing please.

Text back "hockey"
When he asks "?" Say "you texted me what beat us, so I texted what beat you"

Yeah, I had the same thing happen to me, and it was just sad. Tell me again how winning the lottery is better than having hockey in May?
