Bob McKenzie's poll had 8 out of 10 scouts with Yakupov at number 1. 1 wetn with Galchenyuk. 1 went with Murray.
Burke said post draft that they had Rielly at 1. So did the Flames with Jankowski.
If McKenzie said 8 of 10 scouts had Yakupov at 1, it stands to reason that most of the league had him at 1 given those results.

The Flames had Galchenyuk at 1, not Jankowski.
Not sure where you heard that.

Gotta laugh at people who don't think Chiarelli is a good GM. There's a reason the guy was out of work for less than a week. If the Oilers hadn't picked him up, one of the other teams looking for a GM this off-season would have. In fact, I think if the Oilers didn't win the lottery, Chiarelli wouldn't have taken the job.

I'm giggling like a schoolgirl here. MacT gone too?
It's unfortunate we didn't get our pound of flesh with Lowe, but I can handle this as a consolation prize.

why would they have mactavish doing all this post-lottery coverage, talking about how fortunate he is to draft 1st overall, if they were just going to fire him?
this is all mcdavid, and frankly, it's kind of embarrassing.

I never thought I'd say this, but I am excited about the future of the Oilers. I've been a Peter Chiarelli for a while now, and think he'll do good things in Edmonton if he's not working for Kevin Lowe. I hope Peter can bring the Oilers back to respectability.

That was Feaster saying Jankowski would end up being the best player in the draft.
I took Burke's boast about Rielly in the same vein.

It's staggering how many people seem saddened and dumbfounded.
This is a multi million dollar business... it could only go on in complete and utter ineptitude for so long.
If you seriously thought it would just continue that way forever you deserve everything you're feeling right now.
There was more than enough comedy while it rolled along the last few years.

They used to be a deeply flawed team where the best and most popular players were probably the teams biggest problems. It was almost the worst case scenario to start from.
With McDavid they now have a superstar center to build a team around, and dealing anybody and everybody else instantly became a non-issue. It's essentially a clean slate in oiltown. Oilers management suddenly became a much more appealing position.
Doesn't mean that the new management does well with the clean slate, and McDavid alone is not going to change the realities of the UFA market. But it's pretty easy to see that one lucky draft could end up being exactly the magic bullet that Oilers fans are hoping it to be.
In any case it's virtually impossible for the next management to do as badly as the previous one.
Let's just hope they still find a way to wrap up that playoff drought record for the history books. They have done so much to earn that.

Do you really believe the Flames had Jankowski at 1?
Even if Feaster believed this, that doesn't mean the Flames had Jankowski at 1.
It was revealed afterward that the Flames had Galchenyuk at 1.

No GM is going to say "well we really wanted that other guy, but he was gone, so we will settle with this one".

No.
I am saying that Burke, like Feaster was selling his draft choice to the media and that the Maple Leafs didn't necessarily have Rielly at 1.

As much as the McDavid lottery win for the Pilers was bad for Calgary, Chiarelli coming in and cleaning house and building a solid hockey ops group is worse. They have a bunch of assets and if used properly will jump start them into the top half of the western conference.
If the Flames can keep up, BOA will be rocking.

That's a step.
One team was picking at 5, the other at 21. They are not comparable.
