I am not saying Gilles will see NHL action. I said he will be Hiller's backup and get the feel of the NHL atmosphere. Ortio is not 100% healthy yet. Of course I would rather see Ramo or Ortio in the NHL right now but Gilles is a better option than Thiessen as backup I think.

Gillies can't play for us this year (past game 82) He didn't sign before the deadline.

That doesn't apply to College kids. Chris Kreider joined the Rangers for the playoffs in 2012 after Boston College won the Frozen Four.

It applies to college players, for example Kyle Baun is ineligible for playoffs for the Blackhawks.

The difference is as a draft pick, guys like Gillies and Kreider were on their respective team's 80 man reserve list at the trade deadline.

I think it might different for college UFAs vs drafted players that would have been on your reserve list. Think that generates the confusion.

Flames only played 80 games so far. I was saying if Providence lose today, Flames can still sign him and dress him as a backup. I am hoping for Providence to go all the way.
