No one would take that threat seriously because no sane person would follow through on it.

Also interesting that 4 out of the 5 teams McKenzie is reporting are in the playoff mix.
A few posters assumed those guys were out of the mix to sign him.

The fact that Chicago and Detroit are after this guy legitimises him for me to some extent.
Shame Joel Otto retired... I would have enjoyed watching the Otto-Baun line.

Elliot Friedman mentioned on the pregame show of the oilers game that the oilers might actually be the front runners on this. But he won't make a desicion until tonight or tomorrow.

Plenty, 4 or 5 left.

Kenny first, and now maybe Kyle? Do we rename Riley Park to South Park as well?

Trade for Eric (Comrie/Fehr) and then hoist Stan(ley).

That sounds sooooo creepy.
I honestly thought he was going to sign by Tuesday at first....This is killing me as I'd really like this kid on the team.

I had never heard of this guy a week ago so while I hope they sign him, I'm not going to lose any sleep if he goes elsewhere.

Honestly how can someone being given professional, paid advice have Edmonton on a short list? Being from Calgary aside, I really can't imagine how any young player could think going to there is good for his career.
Already questioning his value, simply based on this.

I noticed Baun has 29 pts in 38 games this year, 2nd only behind Tyson Spink who has 31 pts.
What's his story? He also has a twin, Tylor, on the team who had 20 pts in 23 games. Looks like they're 7 months younger than Baun. Maybe not likely to leave college yet? Or just not expected to translate as well as Baun being 5'10"?

I understand you are being somewhat tongue in cheek...
The Oilers have little talent in any part of their organization. Therefore you step into a roster spot. If you are a young player looking for a chance, you have to look at them.
Actually signing with them is a bit different.

It does seem outrageous but it depends on what motivates someone. The money would likely be as good as anywhere else down the road and the ice time would be plentiful. Still, I doubt its his first choice but one that might throw the most at him.

I could see Detroit as a front runner based on this in the prospects thread:
Quote:
RW Kyle Baun 6'2'' 209lbs shoots R Age: 22 Junior
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=76818
grandson of Leafs legend Bobby Baun
went to Bruins and Red Wings Development camps
Wings were so impressed with him at their camp they offered him a NHL contract but he decided to go back to school
noted for his "shot, skating, and gritty" play
|
For us to get him... oh... would be sweet.

A lot of people hate their jobs, he wouldn't enjoy playing for the oilers but odds are he would end up with a huge overpayment in the future if he went there. It could also just be that he's letting people think he's interested in the oilers and he hates them as much as we do!

Would you go to prom with a 10 knowing there's a chance you'd get lucky, or settle with the 5 because you know you'd get lucky?
