But then you're left with a shootout where 2 points goes to winner and 0 points goes to loser? The shootout is a joke enough, giving it even more responsibility in determining the standings is the absolute worst case scenario.
I get that argument, so what about 3 points for a regulation or overtime win and 0 for a regulation or overtime loss, and then split it 2-1 for the shootout? Something has to change.

Regulation win = 3 points
Overtime win = 2 points
SO win = 1 point

Good to hear he's been working on his scoring touch because he has the odd beauty rush, with a bit better finish he could chip in with a few more goals easy.

Remember when we were talking in this thread about a huge Flames win?
That was awesome...

That would be ideal, maybe 2 for winner 1 for loser during OT as well, especially if it goes 3 on 3. But then the games would have been played much differently as teams would fight not to go to OT instead of playing for it like we've seen (especially in interconference games).
Right now, should (hopefully) the Kings miss out on the playoffs they can easily point to their abysmal shootout record and I feel if we were on that side of the fence we would be 'complaining' about that more so than the loser point.
Good news guys the Dallas game is on Lance's birthday! Want to see him get on a roll after this one and just kill it Wednesday. (Not least of all because I picked up a Bouma jersey last Thursday. This game just made it feel exceedingly justified! )

Doubly so when you consider he was centering a pretty brutal 5-man unit (Baertschi-Bouma-Bollig-Engelland-Smid) for a quarter of the season til Stajan came back.

the NHL point system is an absolute joke, LA should be long done too
14 of their losses gained them points
This x 1,000,000. It needs to go to a 3-2-1-0 point system. And the argument that it would mess with the historical aspect of the league is beyond weak. Times change and the game has changed, adapt! You think Gretzky would put up 200+ points in a season, playing against the players/goalie we have nowadays? Not a chance.

Colorado is done. They'd need to go 9-1 to get to 96 points and since they lose the ROW tiebreaker to pretty much everyone by a long shot their number is 97 or a 9-0-1 clip. Good riddance!

Agree with the 3-2-1-0 points system, of course, and yeah, Gretzky would probably only be putting up 150-160 points a season nowadays.
Thought we were fortunate to get out of the game with 2 points. Maybe just my nerves, but felt like the A s had the better chances tonight but we got all the puck luck. I did however feel like the Avs got all the ref luck, a lot of non calls that benefited the Avs tonight.
At this point in the season though a win is a win, kudos to the boys for getting it done!
Late to the party as I was at the game...
It looked like their were a handful of questionable calls. Most notably, the offside on the flames in the third when they held possession.
For those watching on TV - was the officiating solid or was it as lopsided as it appeared at the game?
Also worth noting was the slash/hook call against the flames 20 seconds after Johny was assaulted with a hook in the hands.
