It wouldn't hurt getting Morrison, it would be like adding a Wotherspoon give or take for free.

McKenzie was on the Ottawa/Boston broadcast during the intermission. He said the deal isn't done yet but heading that way. Said he was likely a 4-6 defenseman as opposed to a top 4.

There is a difference between BVB and this guy. This guy is much more highly regarded. BVB was not one of the top guys last year. This guy is more along the line of Folin or Matt Carey from last year. (obviously in the case of Carey at least that means he's still not a sure thing)

Would he be eligible for NHL playoffs? I assume not?

If he ends up as a 4 it is a home run, if he ends up as a 5 it is still a solid ground-rule double.

Good stuff. I like it when the Flames can add a potential top 4 RH defenseman. Now go get a RW.

I would rather have him over Murray, so I approve of this pick up.

If he can be a shut down 6 + a rocket from the point on the power play, that's more than sufficient; especially if he's a player who can create takeaways and not just be slow and pelted in his zone all game like Engelland.
Our top 2 is set for quite a few years. By the time Giordano gets pretty old I'd have to hope we've found a replacement. And I suspect we already have in Brandon Hickey.
Our Middle 2 is healthy. Wideman is 31 and probably playing the best hockey of his career with no sign of slowing down, locked down for some time while Russell is in his prime at age 27 and establishing himself as a premier two-way #3 Dman.
We've got a lot of fantastic prospects who can vy with each other for the #5 spot and if they're good enough (I think Kulak, Rafikov, and Hickey can be, and I wouldn't write off Wotherspoon or Culkin), even push Russell out of #3 and into #5 where his effectiveness will skyrocket. At that point you'd have a contender with two reliable right shot Ds (Wideman/Morrison) and an abundance of puck-movers on the left.
Morrison just has to be strong defensively against 3rd/4th liners and bring an offensivelement that forces the coach to play him. If his skating is as advertised it's a huge boost.
He doesn't have to be middle pairing or even a #5. We're not looking to replace Wideman with him, that would probably be through a future draft. He just has to not be terrible in his own zone and make a name for himself with his shot on the power play.
And if he busts?
NBD.
