Jermaine Franklin: You said you found some energy, how much did Deryk Engelland dropping the gloves have to do with that?

Bob: I'm surprised the question came from you, I thought you were against fighting?

Sigh... -2 McDavid points.

I kid! Crazy to see how this team keeps surpassing expectations and getting better. Gio goes down? Oh well, Wideman and Russ will just be #1 guys now.

I want playoff hockey so badly I can barely contain myself.

I've been a big fan of Russell all year, but what he's done since Gio went down is incredible. And not just the points either, as incredible as his last 4 games have been. He's been the best defender on the ice in these last few games IMO, and his ability to move the puck out of the zone is clutch. Unreal that we got all of that for a 5th round pick, biggest trade steal the Flames have made since Kipper

It really is impressive how this team has responded ( as a team) since Gio went down. They have bagged 9 of a possible 12 points.

Feels like Christmas. I don't know how the hell to react when they clinch a playoff spot.

I honestly forget what playoff hockey feels with my team in it :/

So Russell and Wideman for the last 4 games:

have played 58+ minutes on average (over 29 minutes each)

have blocked 41 shots

have 15 points

A lot of props should go to Derek Engelland tonite. After his first period fight the Flames seized the mo and never looked back.

I posted this in GDT:

Quote:
I don't like John Gibson. Hope we put 5 goals past him. In the first period.
Took an extra 14 minutes (not including the waved off goal), but I'll take it.

Sixth goal was nice insurance in the third

I also like the new strategy -- let in two quick goals so we have 2+ periods to come back and get the W (instead of just trying to do it in the 3rd).

Worked great against Detroit and Anaheim, not so much against Ottawa although we still got the single point...

4 of the Flames' top 7 scorers are defensemen

Russell is now 43rd in the league among defensemen

Quiet night for the stats nerds. Haven't heard a peep.
