I'm sure the Flames management ranks Ferland more valuable than Sven right now. Ferland could potentially play on any line in the NHL. Sven would be more limited to a skilled line.

Two very important pieces moving forward for the Flames. I would dearly love to see them play tomorrow or at any point on this road trip but I just can't see Hartley putting them in there. Maybe a trade opens up a spot, one can only hope.

I really like what Ferland brings and I hope his little slump is a combination of lingering issues with the concussion and confidence in being sent down. Hopefully this sparks him because he was having a great start to the year.

I would agree with that.

Yes, this is exactly what I meant. Untouchable was probably the wrong word, but whatever.

What's Ferland's contract/upcoming waiver status anyways?

RFA at the end of this year.

Hockeybuzz.com actually has a decent system. Says it is powered by NHLSCAP.com

Probably to evaluate whether or not they can potentially fill a roster spot to be vacated by glencross. Aside from that, they have both earned some playing time up here on the back of strong seasons.

My question was why did they get called up. I didn't know about the Stajan's impending birth.

Interesting to see if they re-sign Theissen, who's played well. Potter is insurance so maybe him as well. Diaz has made a case for another small contract.

Probably all RFAs except a couple career minor leaguers re-signed.

Wow, there's going to be a lot of roster turnover in the off season. I could see half that list not being back next year. Be really surprised if any of the UFAs are back.

Wouldn't have said this a month ago, but the most likely returner next year on that UFA list is Diaz.

Yea I could see Diaz getting a short (1-2 year) extension with a bit of a raise. He's been much better lately. Not being in and out of the lineup every other game has definitely been good for him.

I don't think that was a mistake. Jooris was still great for a pretty long time after that.

BTW, how frustrating is it that my computer autocorrects "Jooris" to "juries"?!

I hate autocorrect so much. Spellcheck is cool, but don't change my words for me.

Of that RFA group, who other than Sven will be losing their waiver exemption status after this season? Who, like Shore, is close to losing their exemption?

As I'm not too clear on the waiver rules, I've been wondering for some time what assets the Flames would have to deal with this off-season or risk losing them for nothing.

Jooris
I think Reinhart is also one that crossed that threshold a while ago
