The Conservative Party ads that are running right now are embarassingly bad. They look like they were shot on a budget of $100 with a handicam. Stephen Harper is wearing too much lipstick and the girl he's "chatting with" looks scared stiff. Just horrible horrible stuff, inexcusable.

Yeah but those fall under that category of so bad they're good for me.
I miss Gordon Pape in the morning and the reverse mortgage ads, now they have that one with the incesant song in the background "wouldn't it be nice" repeated over and over again. You can just see the ad execs trying to decide what music will best manipulate the unsuspecting old folk into signing up for their....what ever it is.

True enough but its such a major gaffe in my view. The Conservatives primary challenge is that Harper lacks charisma. So they come out with a dud of an ad that makes him even more wooden. Totally contrived and unappealing. Unreal.
Now compare it to the ads being put out by the Bloc.
http://www.blocquebecois.org/fr/media.asp (click on Chanson "Heureusement" - Vidéo) - this is the full video that they are using abbreviated versions of for their spots. Doesn't matter that we don't know what they are saying...Duceppe looks like a leader, he looks like someone that can inspire...he looks like a genuine guy who cares about his people.
Conservative party needs to pull their head out of their arses.

Yeah but when you're trying to convince the populance that you are the right choice to govern..."so bad its good" isn't really what you should be striving for.

Those CPC ads are awesome! They look just like an Air Farce skit. Of course that is not what a political ad should be trying to look like. The Tories just can't seem to do anything right. I love it.

I think the verse they use for the commercial is this one:
I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!
And here is the full song:

Damn hippo song. So insidious, yet so cloyingly effective. I don't know whether to admire the ad agency or scoop my brain out with a lid from a pen....

KIIDDSSSSS PIZZZAAAA!!!!! ONNNWWWYY AATTT PANAAGO!!!!!!
You should hear the screaming that erupts whenever that awful Panago ad comes on when we're watching TV. At least it looks like they got rid of it.
I really can't stand Telus ads either. It's not that they're really all that bad, it's more that they've been doing the exact same thing for years. White background. Animals. Catchy tune that everyone knows. Always. Always. Always. Always. Year after year.

That new Tim Horton's Steeped Tea one passes me off too (of course, not as bad as the last one).

OK, here's how to survive that one: look at the expression on the neighbours' face after "Hey, Mrs. (whatever), garden's looking STEEPED!" She looks hillarious. If it wasn't for that, the TV would've been out the window long ago.
As for "Bananas son!" - it makes the Brick ads look good, and I thought that was impossible.

I hate the "Sounds of Music" ad on HNIC. The dude looks like he's going to come through the TV screen and try to eat me. And for a place that puts a lot of emphasis on quality (I hate how he says it!), they don't put out quality commercials.

This is the one that bugs me the most. I have never seen three actors carry on a more stilted conversation. It's like a junior high play.

I find the Old Navy ones annoying. Especially the one that looks like an award show. An award show for clothes, no thanks.

I kind of like that one, soap, jacket, JACKET - plus the fake reporter chick is kind of cute.

The those its a case of damned if you do, damned if you dont. Last year they were criticized for flashy commercials that were to "American". I dont mind these ones, they get the point across, and lets face it, since Lord Black and others jumped off the PC bandwagon, I imagine the budget is stgretched pretty thin.
Also remember that these are the first few adds, most likely the ones closer to the end will have a tad more funding.
