Oh, lets be honest about that play. It was a masterfully executed pick by Sven. Raymond gets cut off entirely if not for that.

A lot of fans really looking to give props to Sven for no reason. Once again, Sven wasn't bad, not at all out of place, but really he was just there. Not a difference maker at all, simply did the things that are table stakes to be an NHL player and be a body on this team. Hope he gets more of an opportunity before the end of the year, but really, his game last night was another proof positive reason why he hasn't stuck. He does nothing to stand out, distinguish or contribute above right now. He doesn't hurt the team at all and he's doing the right things, but we have about 10 other guys that could step in and make the exact same contribution if needed. I only bring it up because quite a few on here trying saying they loved his game. If you loved Sven's game last night, then you are truly looking for reasons to compliment the guy because he was not particularily noticeable at all.

The play he made to help Raymond score his goal was a huge part of the game last night. For the most part Sven was in good position defensively to ensure that the Jets couldn't get the puck to the point. I think people need to realize that he never will be that guy that will dangle and score like Gaudreau.

Raymond, Diaz and Bollig scored... Treliving is a genius!
Surprisingly quiet night in the crowd. The Jets fans had nothing to cheer for, and Flames fans seem to view the Jets the way we do the Senators: complete indifference.
|
Yes he was, and has been for the last three games. I had to pick him up in my pool as Howard is IR and I needed the starts, but damn do I need to drop his ass. KILLING my gaa stats in the worst possible way.

What exactly are your expectations for him? Because you seem to have the bar quite high for a guy who WAS noticeable last night and clearly was buying into the team's style. He forechecked hard, he finished his checks, he got an assist and played with an edge. Yeah you're right, most of us are looking to compliment the guy because he had a pretty darn good game for not playing with the team in almost 2 months and it's a feel good story when he has a big game like that after all he's been through. He played a role in the team winning. What more did you want?

Haven't we been undefeated when Sven is in the lineup? If not, what is the record?

Sven had a good game last night. He made a great NHL play on Raymond's goal and he did a number of little things right all night. No real mistakes and even mucking it up with 6'4" Adam Lowry. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it seems like he's starting to be less focused on his point production and more focused on playing the right way and within the system that's been designed. The irony IMO is that will lead to more point production. I'm sure the Flames are happy with what they are seeing.

And everyone that bought a Sven jersey that says he had a good game.
Poor guy is over-reacted about either way.

Sven played really well, it's good to see him doing those small things right and not just focusing on trying to get points.
Bolig scored last night and Sven did so I guess some are going to say Bolig>Sven

I am no Sven fan boy, but it's hard to argue about his game last night. If all you care about is who's stick the puck went off when a goal was scored, then sure Sven had a bad game. If you look at any other aspect of the game, it's easy to see Sven is improved.
I saw him confidently and comfortably winning forechecks last night. I've not seen him do that in the NHL before. Sven has a more complete game right now, and I hope he can build on this.

I agree there's overreaction both ways. Sven made a nice play on the goal (I won't say it'd the primary reason for it - Raymond had a good head start and is fast, plus he was the one who shot the puck into the net). Sven also had a generally decent game, with ups and downs (the ups were mainly on the forecheck and the downs were mainly in his own end). He didn't win a ton of puck battles, but he was in them. I'd say overall he filled in nicely and it was his best game this year (yes, I know he had two assists once, but he was still more peripheral in that game).
He played well with Raymond, who also had his best game in quite a while (though I would say he's been getting steadily better the last four games or so). With Jooris being capable on faceoffs, it means they are not trapped in their own zone as much, which is a problem for both Sven and Raymond since they don't win a lot of board battles.
But I won't go overboard and say it was a great game compared to other players. It was good enough to warrant more starts depending on the rerturning injuries. If Backlund returns and Hudler still feels OK (I thinnk he was still sick last night) Sven probably doesn't play. Who would come out based on last game? What winger played worse than Sven? This isn't a criticism of him - they just all played well.
It does get a bit annoying on the GT when there's a halfway decent play that results in way more posts than if, say, Bouma made the play. I get that the Sven crowd is eager to highlight anything positive, but sometimes its too much. That said, I didn't find this to be the case very often last night.

Sven had a solid game but he didn't stand out enough to force Hartley's hand for the next game. He's probably back in the press box next game if Backlund returns.

He probably did enough that Hartley would go with Colborne at second line centre again and use Sven on the third line with Jooris, rather than put Granlund in, if Backlund can't go.

I had to laugh when I saw Yahoo's headline for this game: "Bollig leads Flames to win..."
Now, I wasn't a hater on BB when he was with my guys, but, there are many 'Hawk fans that were...and I am glad that he was able to do SOMETHING positive for your guys!

EXACTLY!!! I was seriously wondering how Sven got away with that (not complaining) with the refs both looking right at that play.

Just rewatched that goal twice
Raymond had ten feet on that Jets defender and gaining. That guy wasn't a factor as he was trying to get position on Sven anyways. Sven was skating for his own lane at the net for a pass/rebound. I saw no issue with that play
