I saw 2/3 items thrown after the Glencross/Goalie issue and 3/5 items thrown later.

I might been underestimating it or missed some though.

If you are at a hockey game and you throw anything, you are a certified jackass. There is no grey area here.

Tonight I saw a guy attempt to throw a lighter on the ice, and bombed it into the lower bowl, and thankfully was promptly ejected. That level of stupidity really pisses me off.

If your child was in the 100 level and got smashed in the back of the head with a lighter, are you having a good time?

This should be in the WRGMG thread.

I was at the game and I only saw 2 water bottles (one that hit the jumbotron) and a lighter thrown on the ice. Unacceptable regardless

Those were thrown during the game, when the game ended there were quite a few more items thrown. 6-8 maybe.

0/4 Today
0/3 vs Islanders
1/5 vs Oilers
0/2 vs Kings
0/3 vs Oilers

So in the last five games, our only power play goal was against the Oilers. That's also a mere 5.8% on the PP over five games. It just hasn't looked good for a while. And it's not a lack of skill, because this team has skill. What they lack is any sign of a PP system. And we know there's a system in place because we see it during 6-on-5s. But our PPs just tend to look bad and produce nothing.
It looks like they're trying to get a shot from the point, but they aren't fooling anyone and can't stretch them out enough. 45 seconds of mostly ineffective perimeter passing followed by a shot into extremely heavy traffic has gotten really hard to watch. the lack of urgency on the pp in general is alarming - i'd like to see jooris out there to provide some energy. They constantly dump around the boards to a waiting dman because theres no real forecheck to force the D or to get the dump

That great stretch during the first PP when Backlund dictated the play from the circle made me think that there might be a better overall PP going on tonight.

For some reason it just went back to fetching the puck behind the own net for every PP after that. It's getting really frustrating, and what is even more frustrating is that it actually ruined momentum to get a PP tonight. That's not how it's supposed to work.

So happy to see Backlund back and playing great right off the bat. Hopefully that's gonna be a difference maker in the second half.

I'm pretty meh on Raymond, but he's better defensively, and I think he will have a resurgence. He's not Setoguchi who was on a downward slide.

I don't think we want to start bouncing guys up and down from Addy unless there's injuries.
Raymond was terrible tonight. Blindly turning the puck over constantly, not looking where he's passing. The guy is incredibly soft with the puck, and loses it as soon as someone breathes on him. I have no idea how this guy got off the bench all those years with Vigneault in Vancouver, cause he just doesn't get it. He plays the game like a rookie straight out of junior, a little dash but zero fundamentals. Even his goal was pure luck that the rebound bounced to him. He pretty much had a two on one on that chance with Backlund driving the net in prime position for a pass and Raymond went unnecessarily wide and took a low percentage slapshot from the boards??? Lucky goal. That first Detroit goal is also on Raymond, pointlessly dicking around with the puck in the neutral zone playing softly. Turns it over and Sheahan scores.

Watching the Wings, you appreciate the fundamentals that they teach. Their players rarely ever give up the puck easily. They know where to put their sticks in positions to stop opposition passes. They know how to support the puck carrier.

The score suggests a close game but it really wasn't, it was men versus boys. Flames compensated with their heart and effort, but their was a huge gap between the teams in terms of team play and individual skills.

Yea, there was probably 10-15 people who threw things. (10 might be a stretch)

Tough loss but a few comments:

-Glencross: 30 GM's would LOVE to have a guy like him on their team, especially with his contract. Thank God some of you aren't running this team. I get the argument that he takes bad penalties at times, but he's a valuable player and a lot of fans treat him like absolute garbage. Is he perfect? No, but he's nowhere near as bad as some people think he is.

-Raymond: Actually thought he played okay (for Raymond). He still made a few bonehead moves but at least he put the puck in the net tonight.

-Thought Backlund had a terrific return. Really liked seeing him put up a few points. I was disappointed Granlund was sent down, but if this is the guy who replaces him, then I'm fine with it.

-Also really happy to see Byron get that assist. The guy has been cold lately so it was nice for him. I was getting ready for him to be scratched soon but hopefully he gets hot again.

-Gaudreau and Jooris weren't bad tonight at all, but man they really missed Hudler tonight. Can't be too upset though, family does come first so I'm happy for Jiri.

-Thought the Flames deserved a better fate, but what can you do? A few brain farts cost us goals. The power play was an utter joke tonight. If they can figure out the power play, they'll be alright.

I like Curtis Glencross, but do not want him on this team making north of 5 million dollars next year. He will probably get a David Clarkson style contract from someone when he hits UFA, and he's already indicated that he won't be taking a discount.

He is a quality 2nd/3rd line winger, and would be a very useful player if the Flames were in a contender mode. However, despite the proximity to the playoffs, we are still rebuilding.

The unfortunate thing with having as many good up and coming forwards is that there will be players that will have to move on, and that includes some of the younger guys themselves. With having 11 forwards that are already penciled in to the team next year (Hudler, Jones, Stajan, Raymond, Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund, Colborne, Bollig, Jooris, and Bouma) we need a spot or two for guys like Poirier and Bennett who will likely be in the NHL next year.

So if you have no room and not a lot of financial incentive to keep him beyond this season, why are you holding on to him? Our playoff chances won't be impacted significantly by the loss of Glencross like they would be by dealing Hudler. Plus Bennett/Poirier would be replacing him after he would be dealt, which is good because they are good, and would be getting experience in the NHL. On top, you're likely going to get another couple of good pieces for the team moving forward either in terms of picks or prospects. Just like a rebuilding team should.

It will not be a good day when he is no longer playing for Calgary in the eyes of many, but for the long term, there is only one way that this should turn out.

Well said. Hats after a hat trick. Teddy Bears after the Teddy Bear goal. Other than than that no. Not ever. Not even Oilers jerseys.

I blame George Canyon for this.

I think this is it. We're getting back to earth and becoming 0.500 team reflecting our skills level. Playoffs now doesn't seem likely.

I agree, and I'm ok with that considering the low, low expectations from before the season. Feels good that the games are actually meaningful though, and probably will be for a good long while still.

I believe we will be in a fight with Vancouver, Winnipeg, Dallas and Minnesota for the two wild card spots, and it's still possible that we can have a better second half than any of those teams.

The PP really was a disgrace. It looked a couple of times as though they had no idea what to do. Came close to another OG too. Seriously? Surely 3 in a season would be a record of some sort.

I sit on the attacking blue line, and from my vantage, that linesman got the call right. Puck appeared out. The Glencross play I didn't see well, but I agree with Jiri - he is one of the few guys that goes to the dirty areas of the crease, and dirtier plays will happen. Kind of dumb on his part, but also dumb on the part of the defenceman taking his own goalie out of the play by pinning Glencross against him. I suppose that ended up as a wash.

But I will say this: On the few times our powerplay did not look like a steaming pile of crap, Glencross was set up in front of the net.

Ultimately, last night's game was another example of how our early season fortune is not sustainable. Both teams entered the game with 21 wins. This was a contest we could have won, but the points were lost by our own ineptitude. You just cannot win at the NHL level by scoring zero or one goals in the first 55 minutes of contests or by being the better team for about 15 minutes out of 60.

Detroit is frustrating because they are good at getting sticks in the way, but that does not excuse the forwards for frequently Oilering it up in the defensive zone and either bailing early or standing around and denying the defencemen any decent passing lanes. Nor does it excuse the defencemen for being out of position so often and allowing pucks to drift back out of the attacking zone.

Nobody takes us lightly anymore. We work hard, but we often fail to work smart, and the end result is two goal deficits that simply will not be overcome on a regular basis.

I would also add that Gaudreau looked lost out there last night. Probably a consequence of missing Hudler, but he was very unsure of what to do with the puck on numerous occasions. I don't think his linemates did a great job of helping him out though.
