You don’t need to be psychic to know that the Oilers need more depth at centre. They didn’t add any.
Honestly, why are you even trying to portray these as smart moves?

I have no conspiracy theory to peddle. Just pointing out it's not as black and white as you suggest. For instance, can you not make an argument that keeping both centers is better than just one?

It's odd, hitching his wagon to the mule that is the Oilers.

Don't mean to offend, but I never liked hearing or saying the last name of Arcobello.
It's just something about it...

There should probably be some kind of league intervention to put and end to this freak show, but at the same time it's great entertainment.
I hope Mark Arcobello goes on to have a career now. He is not that bad a player and might very well fit in comfortably with Nashville.

A sign that the Oilers management has moved from the 80s to the 2000s?

The thing is, we all laugh but they're a few months away from taking one of the highest-touted players there's been since Crosby.
It's so, so unfair on both the league and the kid. Think of the teams that are still trying to keep some dignity in their play and the way they run their organisation, while maybe trying to acquire the No.1 pick. Look at what they're doing with Draisaitl. Look at what they've done with Hall, Yakupov, RNH.... I'd rather the kid gets drafted by somebody else and tuns into a legitimate superstar, and that kid might one day score thousands of goals against us, but what a fantastic player he might be. I'd rather that than see the kid ruined by the Oilers. Seriously, without star and highlight-reel players, the league can't sell it's product too well. There needs to be some sort of intervention, otherwise one of the 'best potential players of his generation' will be ruined.
No I have not been drinking.

The Oilers only have 45, 46 contracts. Either they are really stupid with the center for center deal, or there is going to be a bigger deal made with a bigger player, with more contracts coming their way.

Lots of talk on twitter that Draisatl's WHL rights have been traded as expected to Kelowna.
You'd have to expect him to go down shortly.

That certainly would be the smart thing to do.
So Edmonton will probably keep him...

It only took them about halfway through the season to figure out Draisaitl wasn't ready.

At this point, I think that Springs1 would almost certainly be a better GM that MacTavish.
At least Springs1 know exactly what she wants.

Eric Duhatschek was saying on the fan yesterday that these are the kind of trades that a GM will use to shake up a room, more than anything else.
I can understand what MacTavish is trying to go for here from a personnel standpoint, but am unsure that it will be effective. From what I see, there are big challenges in the room in getting the team to play like a team and play a system. They need pros that will follow direction and not get emotionally caught up in results (or lack thereof).
So, the GM is adding a veteran pro to the room to balance out the attitude issues, but I haven't read a lot of good things about Roy's attitude or work ethic. Does he have any connections with the coaching staff?

So they trade Arcobello for Roy and will likely send Draisatl down. Doesn't that net them even less NHL centres than before?
Unless they do something else this is an odd combination of moves.
