I would have liked to see him paired with Arnold + Poirier...or at least Reinhart or Knight.
If you are grooming someone to be a top 6 forward, play him with top 6 players and give him PP time..put him in a position to succeed.
If not just cut or trade him already....
But recently things have been starting to turn around for the third-year pro, who returned to the AHL on Wednesday. Baertschi is happy about the progress he's made and said the Calgary coaching staff is too.
"I've just got to continue to go the same way every day," he said. "Now it's up to me to start building more confidence, start putting up some points."
Baertschi is used to the up-and-down life of a prospect. He knows to just working on his game and not to worry about the things that he can't control, like being called up. After all, Baertschi pointed out, he's still playing hockey for a living.

Poor Sven, blah blah............. Flames sure are out to get him. He's on the cusp of being a full time NHL player, maybe the Flames want him to be the offensive catalyst on a line, make a line that wouldn't be a threat with out him, an actual threat. Having Sven produce because he's paired up with other producers proves nothing nor does it really help Sven develop.
He's supposed to be one of the ready now prospects, those guys should make the players in the AHL around him better. If Sven requires top notch line mates in the AHL to succeed, things aren't looking great for him I'd say..........not that I believe it to be the case that he requires that, or that he's actually not getting paired with some good folks.
Oh great; they are playing Sven with BVB and Vause in practice.....
Vause is a spark plug centre that could probably set up an inanimate carbon rod for a goal and Van Brabant had a 2 goal game before his suspension where anytime he touched the puck it damn near went in.
Not a bad line to ease him into it. With Knight out, they can't put him there, so this isn't a bad replacement for him.
^ Love that from Sven. Definite shift in mentality from previous interviews after send downs. Hope he lights it up.
The way he played towards the end of his latest stint with the Flames I could tell he was feeling a bit looser and more relaxed out there. It's good for him to know exactly where he stands with the coaching staff. It's great that they're happy with his play and that he's happy to play whatever role it is he's given.
I have a really good feeling that he's about to take the bull by the horns and lead Adirondack in his own way by scoring big goals like the one tonight.
Are five shots and the game-tying goal in his first game back in the A a good enough response for those who think he has no future with the club?
Doesn't really mean anything for either side of the argument. It's a good start and it's good for him. It's a start production wise. Good to see him getting that monkey off his back.
There's been a lot of (somewhat justified) concern that Sven has sulked when sent back down, demonstrated a victim mentality and is lacking the mental fortitude to deal with adversity.
I think his latest media comments and performance tonight in his first game back in Adirondack should ease a few minds.
Also, great for him to finally score in what must have been the longest streak without a goal for him maybe in his whole life. I hope he gets back on track and the Flames are developing him right because I see him doing a 180 like Nino Neiderreiter or Kyle Turris if he lose him.

As many of you don't visit the Back Burner forum (and why not??) here are the highlights from tonight's game. Baertschi, Reinhart and Wotherspoon prominent in them.

Setoguchi had a wicked start there as well. Let's not jump to conclusions either way.
That highlight package shows a huge improvement for Sven over the course of his call up. You can draw some modest conclusions from his game. He is trending upwards again. That's a huge positive sign. Now we'll have to see if his progression continues.

It's nice you think there was a huge improvement. I myself don't really think cherry picking highlight packages are the way to judge it though. You could probably make a great highlight package for Leon Draisaitl, who is not an NHLer.

Compared to every other highlight package from games Sven played in this year this was a huge step up. It's pretty much indisputable. Watch other highlight packages from earlier in the year, if you do see Sven he was almost always a marginal player. This was absolutely a huge improvement.

If you think compiling highlights of one player over a 25 game span is at all similar to watching a single games highlights for both teams then this conversation can't really go any further. If someone looks to be the best player on the ice in a highlight package, they usually don't look that much worse during the actual game.
