Yes.
The taste to money ratio is just hovering near or at zero.
I woke up at 3am today and have been sitting in an airport for the last 5 hours. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

Just remember folks, gates made for keeping people out can also keep people in!

I'm confused as to why anyone thinks the gate's purpose is to stop people getting lake access. Why would anyone go to the trouble of getting lake access from an island of houses (if their intention is to sneak through a residence) when there's an entire perimeter of houses around the lake (and the other lake) from which they can "sneak". It's nothing more than an attempt to look exclusive.

The bridge itself isn't on anyone's property. You could get down to the water from the embankment on either side.

Not really. Almost all of the million dollar houses in Calgary are wood construction. Out in the boonies and Mount Royal.

I was rolling my eyes at your comment. I don't care for the house either though.
The term McMansion just irritates me. I'm curious what is your definition of a 'mansion' then? Pretty sure the majority of homes in Calgary are built with wood.
I don't think people who build homes over 2000sq ft (or whatever the McMansion threshold is) are dreaming that they finally have their own mansion. I just don't understand why so many people care about other people homes.
In regards to the gate for this island it really blows my mind how many people are upset over it. If the gate wasn't there would people really drive on to the island? There is nothing to see other then the same house that aren't on the island but are lakefront. You can access the lake through anyone of those lakefront lots/yards as well.

I think the term McMansion is hilarious.

I always thought of a McMansion as large 'cheap' house. Usually it's a much larger but only slightly nicer version of the average house in the, usually newer, community. Instead of spending money for a nicer lot, interior and especially exterior finishes or design it's spent on sheer size. A large unimaginative house that is impressive to the layperson.

That's been my understanding of it. It's the "veneer" of money/taste, while nothing really of value under the surface.
I think the best example is when you look at the front of a house and see a brick veneer, and cheap vinyl siding along the sides of the home. Meant to look "rich" from one angle, but not constructed as such throughout.

Yeah I thought Evergreen Estates describe McMansions perfectly?
3000-4000 square ft houses that are cookie cutter.
If you want to see the difference between McMansions and Nice big houses then compare Evergreen Estates to custom home communities like Silverado Ranches or Aspen?
That's the difference in my eyes?

There's a huge difference between Evergreen Estates and Dressage in Silverado. The houses in Silverado (estates) are custom/unique and the lots are massive for Calgary. I'm not sure what Aspen estates look like

Thats exactly what I mean. Evergreen estates is like 90% McMansions. I can see the ranches in silverado from my window. I'd say maybe 30% of them are McMansions. Dressage has a funky style. I like that area a lot.

New album from Modest Mouse out tomorrow. This is (apparently) the cover. Sort of off-topic, I guess, but kind of fitting.

If you could use a boat in there it might be something to consider.
