I hate cats.

I grew up with them, loved them, and then in my early 20's I was loving in my brother's basement and his wife has 17 cats which she did not properly care for. I learned to hate them rather quickly.

I got married, a my wife had 2 really nice cats, so I was ok with them for a while and we even got an 'Ours" cat. Then I started realizing that my hayfever was much more severe since we got married. Allergy testing revealed that I was allergic to them. Looking back on my life, it made so much sense, but I had never put it together at the time.

I dealt with it until our second child was born, and he had the same issues as I did, so we gave the cats to family after trying for a long time to find another home for them.

tl;dr I cant stand being around cats even more than you can't stand dogs, and your question is absurd. You got the cat, you deal with it.

You've always been purposely obtuse on the subject of animals no matter how many times people, some with many years of experience/knowledge, try to explain it to you in the simplest of terms.

It's like you don't understand that animals have grey matter up in there heads. Animals can also make connections in this grey matter given the opportunity just like humans can.... and like humans sometimes it takes them longer to make these connections or need to be presented with a different method and more patience to make those connections.

Some animals are dumb regardless of how they're raised. Are you honestly disputing that? All dogs start off with the exact same amount of potential and it's up to us humans to unlock it? That's obviously not true. You're acting like it's all nurture and there is no nature.

Did you seriously expect the dog to stay healthy forever? It's fairly common for an otherwise healthy dog to require $500 - $2000 of medical care over there life span. Also, it's not the dogs fault it's dumb, it's your fault.

Hahaha, thanks for that. Thanks for enlightening me that a dog may not stay healthy forever, you really opened my eyes. I have no problem with routine stuff, shots, medicine for an infection, stuff like that, but when it gets to the point of an animal require operations, see ya. They are animals, not people, they don't get the same benefits. Tough titty.

And yet it appears to have caught you completely off gaurd, unless your thinking going into it: "I know at some point this dog will get unhealthy, at which point i will kill it." You killed your dog when it got to a point where you couldn't buy your kids as nice of clothes as you'd like (if you went second hand, you could outfit each kid for $100 each, and have a living pet). It didn't sound like you were facing getting a second mortgage.

Not your fault? Everything you've posted in this thread paints you as an indifferent and ignorant pet owner. I'm hardly convinced.

If you can't care for a pet for it's entire life you should not get one. Warn your friends that want a puppy or kitten because it is cute. They are babies for only a short time and you should be prepared to take care of it later in life.

I agree with you that it isn't cool. The primary reason we didn't get a garage cat is because it wouldn't be fair to the cat. I'd hate to be chained to a shelf all day, and I'm sure a cat would, too. I've said all this.

To play with. For the kids to play with. It'd just be kind of cool to have a furry little dude that lives in the garage. We hang out there a lot, BTW. It's like a second living room. Probably not what you're picturing. But again, it was just an idea we were bouncing around. We decided against it as it wouldn't be the best life for the cat.
