I thought Giordano was absolutely incredible tonight, especially in the first period the guy was by FAR the best player on the ice in the first and was steady all night long.
I was very impressed with how aggressive colborne was tonight, he is pushing people around after whistles and initiating scrums, good for joe.
Gaudreau, what can you say about this kid. He is the real deal and everyone knows it. Not a defensive liability what so ever. Vision that maybe 1% of the players in this league have at best. The way they use him on the power play is incredible. Give him the puck with speed while the defence is already in their zone standing still and let him go to work.
Ramo - incredible. I am blown away with the progress this guy has made, really nothing else to say.
Jooris - an absolute work horse, he is constantly going at 100% which explains why Bob gave him all the ice time he wanted and more tonight.

"I just skated down the side there and Johnny basically drew everybody in the rink to him, deked them out and then made a great pass to me," said Wideman. "I don't know how he knew that I was there, but he made some fantastic moves and just put it on my tape. I just got it on net."
"I think we all knew Johnny could be a great game-breaker. That's no secret," Wideman said. "Whenever he has the puck in the offensive zone, he can control the play and control the game."
Johnny now has 2G 2A and is a +5 in 8GP in the NHL.

reading this thread and the "no Johnny in OT" whining makes me laugh. Seriously I love CP and it's one of the first website I go to whenever I'm online, but sometimes I can only shake my head at the CP whine trifecta:
*) Sportsnet and PBP
*) coaching staff and their handling of JG and other youngsters
*) we win too many games, so no McDavid (probably my favourite)
simply amazing.
In terms of the game ... I'll take the point. Sucks that they couldn't give Ramo the SO, but in general, a point vs Tampa is more than okay. Goaltending looks amazing so far. Hope Monahan gets the monkey off the back soon.

I am not seeing the hate for Monahan's game. I think that he has been pretty solid all year despite struggling to find the score sheet. He is doing a lot of the little things right and he will turn around soon enough. If am not mistaken he was facing Stamkos for the majority of the night?
Jooris is looking like a pro and i thought he was one of our best players again tonight.
Johnny being johnny enough said.
Lastly, I thought Brodie was fantastic once again and to me it felt as though he was trying to show to the world that he will continue to improve despite having a secure future in the bag.

I cringe whenever I hear that Monahan has a so-so game. I expect the "let's trade him before his value goes down even more" chatter to begin.

Agree on Gio. There was one shift where we were hemmed in and the forwards couldn't get it out so he just says eff it and carries it out and gets a scoring chance.
I think the biggest need on the Flames is finding a 4th top 4 defenseman. With Russell and Gio/Brodie they've got 3, but everyone else would be a better fit on 3rd pairing.

FWIW its worth on Monahan - he had the best Corsi for the team in the game last night. The underlying stats for him are good. The points will come. We had 9 shots while he was on the ice, Tampa had 4.
That one pass way behind Wideman was painful to watch however.

If Monahan was/is sick he should be out of the lineup. Get back to full health and play well.

Anyway... Colborne was terrible last night. Liked Monahan's fight for pucks in the corner, but he didn't seem to be getting in shooting locations very much. Bollig was surprisingly good last night. When Gaudreau went into the boards, all I saw was Al MacInnis getting wishboned in that neutral site game back in the day (Cincinnati?) that cost him three months. Luckily, the training staff just injected him with some of Bouma's blood (probably), and he only missed a few shifts.
Also of note, we didn't take a minor penalty. Brown should have gotten an instigator for that fight. And the linesmen were terrible in the third. They should have waived off at least three icings against us, but they also should have blown dead at least three offsides against us. So they sucked for both sides.

Yeah bud, but did you see the part where Jooris didn't get the puck out of the zone with about 2:30 to play in the 3rd, leading to the tying goal? Saw him bent over the bench after the goal, obviously distraught, with Stajan there consoling him. Great that we're playing the young guys, but I'd rather have a veteran forward trying to make that chip out of the zone at crunch time.

Interesting game, I thought the Flames played quite well for their first game back from the road trip.
Few factor's,
1) Defense is continuing to carry the team in terms offense (37 percent of the goals). Quite a few Flames forwards need to start to generate some offense (Backlund, Glencross, Monahan etc...).
2) Goal-tending once again was outstanding.
3) Jooris continues to play really well, his speed is a great asset
In terms of the OT winner, TJ Brodie is the goat on that one. TJ lost his coverage...... You could see his frustration when he broke his stick over the net.

Ya to bad we couldn't hold on to a win but atleast we got a point. I expect Brodie to have a big game against Carolina after his missed assignment in OT. Oh ya John G is good!

Thanks for mentioning that. CP sees what it wants to see. Jooris' soft play led directly to the tying goal and I could see it happen as soon as Jooris failed to get the puck out. Other then that he had a great game, but a rookie mistake cost us the game. But instead let's all focus on how Hartley didn't play JG in OT. People fail to notice however that the game was over at the 3min mark. Maybe Hartley was waiting to put him out at the end. Maybe he was still injured and it was precautionary. Maybe JG was due to go out the very next shift. Did anyone notice how Gaudreau had 2 giveaways and perhaps Hartley noticed that? But oh no, JG didnt' play for 3 minutes, Hartley must be ruining him.

Agreed - I was at the game and made a point of watching Jooris as its always interesting to see new players. I agree that his work ethic and effort is outstanding, but his 'panic point' is very quick which lead to him either falling down or turning the puck over consistently. Whenever he touched the puck, he couldn't get it off his stick fast enough. I see potential, which is maybe what others are seeing. Hopefully he sticks long enough to get the nerves out of his system so we can see his true potential.

I thought the same thing until they showed a specific angle which clearly shows the lightning player pushing off of brodie to get separation. Could Brodie have been in better position? perhaps... but its tough to say as rules do not allow for a push off. It reminded me of football and how a push off is called every time as it gives 1 player a huge advantage, be it defense or offense.
