That is absolutely hilarious!

I hope the Flames start their fourth line against the Canucks on opening night, but I doubt they will.

You know, with guys like Willie Desjardins and Trevor Linden on board and the departure of Kesler, the Canucks aren't as loathsome as they used to be. Of course, Burrows and Dorsett are still very detestable.

Hmm no, Canucks are still no good. They have Bieksa, Sedins, Burrows, Kassian and so on...just gross.

Let's not say things we might want to take back later...

Ok, I'll admit it...I don't get it. I know it's a reference to the Torts thing, but I still don't get it.

Well he got fined $25,000 for 'meeting' the last Canucks' coach in the 'little hallway.'

Oh, don't get me wrong, there's still plenty of detestable players on that Canucks team (and I only mentioned the two that really bug me). It's just a little better than it used to be.

Hartley has the best quotes.

This was pretty good, but not porcupine in a balloon party good.

On Tuesday, the Calgary Flames announced defenceman Kris Russell would be joining the team's leadership group as an alternate captain.
"Rusty has been such a positive acquisition for us, both on and off the ice," head coach Bob Hartley explained. "Stand-up guy. Doesn't make much noise but when it's time to speak up, he's there. He's a special person.
"His consistency is great. I never have to worry about him."
Quote:
"It's a huge honour," he said after practice. "I try to lead by example. If there are things that I think need to be said, I say them.
"We've got a lot of different kind of leaders in the room, a lot of vocal guys. I'm more of the quiet kind of leader."
Quote:
His heart and determination have been key factors in his success.
"He's a tough little bugger," Hartley smiled. "You don't measure Kris Russell by inches."
Quote:
Hiller will get the start on Wednesday in the Flames home opener against the Vancouver Canucks (8:00 PM MT, Sportsnet) and Ramo getting the nod in Edmonton on Thursday (7:30 PM, Sportsnet 360).
"Those two guys have been like brothers since day one. They're going to be competing for the net. I don't think we'll declare a number one," Hartley mused. "I really believe that we have two guys that can be number one's and who will provide us with number one goaltending.
"82 games is very long and we'll need both guys to be fresh. They'll give us good hockey."
Quote:
The Flames announced their opening day roster on Tuesday and Johnny Gaudreau has made the cut.
"I'm just taking it all in right now," he said. "It's definitely a little overwhelming but I'm really excited. I'm glad to be here another day and glad to play in [tomorrow's game]."
Gaudreau's parents won't be in attendance at the home opener but Mr. and Mrs. Gaudreau could be making a trip out west later this month.
"They have work and stuff so they can't come out," he said. "Hopefully after the road trip, hopefully they can come out and see me here."
Quote:
Joe Colborne, one of Gaudreau's linemates from practice, has been wowed by the diminutive forward throughout camp and is looking forward to seeing him in action this year.
"I keep saying. It's the same as Patrick Kane. Trust me, we all think the best way to get Patrick Kane is be physical on him. But you somehow have to find a way to get him. That's what nobody has figured out how to do yet.
"I see a lot of similarities in that way, when he has the puck. The way he moves and the way has that aura about him, it's hard to close the gap on him and it scares off a lot of defencemen and gives him that extra split second to make a pass and get out of the way as a guy comes to hit him."

Now perhaps Stajan is playing there simply to give the line some sense of defensive responsibility but as the home team surely Hartley can manage to match lines well enough to get them out there in favorable situations.

Speaking of square pegs and round holes, Bouma's game would be much better suited to playing with two bruisers like Ern and BB than with Backlund and Raymond.
Bouma and Backlund has always played good together. They also played a lot of games together in Abby. So......not really forcing anything there.

I don't get the whole fireman thing. What are firemen's worst enemy? Flames. What do they eliminate? Flames. It just seems like a bad omen to me.

33 & 44 traditionally been D numbers on most teams for those guys that were 3 or 4 as kids but could get those numbers on their teams for whatever reason.

I thought this was the best thread to post this:

http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/10/07...-in-his-corner

Pint-sized Flames prospect Johnny Gaudreau has at least one star in his corner

Some interesting quotes from the article:

Quote:
“My game was speed, so I didn’t have to be big. I just had to be fast,” Fleury added. “Obviously, I couldn’t have come into a better situation than I did. Johnny Gaudreau is not coming into a team that’s favoured to win the Stanley Cup. There was opportunity for time, to develop me and put me in a role that I was comfortable in and the team was comfortable with.
“So it’s different. But somebody who has as much skill and talent as Johnny has, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be successful in this new game.”
Quote:
Any advice, Theo?
“Just don’t listen to the noise,” Fleury said. “Believe in yourself. Believe in your ability. Believe in all that hard work that you’ve put in as a kid and in college ... And be a good teammate. He’s already got the fans on his side, which is phenomenal. That’s important, especially when you’re playing a big man’s sport. The more people that like you, the better chance you have of sticking around.
“A kid like Johnny, he’s got talent. He’s exciting. The fans want to be entertained, and hopefully Johnny is that guy who can entertain them for the next 15 or 20 years.”

Must have been because I heard it as well. Directly spoke about JG and Jooris in regards to this. Said away games coach loses ability to control lines and match ups, exposing some holes.
