It's okay to say it. It's not like you have been the first to suggest this. People have been drawing comparisons between Gaudreau and Gretzky for two years now.
really? ha, I guess I haven't been paying attention. I still feel silly saying it though, but when I watch him play, I think 2 names; him and Kariya.

The biggest question will be to keep him up and work with a team that doesn't have the skill to keep up with him, other than a few of the flames like Monahan and Hudler.
He gels extremely well with the young members of the team. For a team that doesn't have a lot of depth, that's rebuilding, wouldn't it be better for him to grow with future line mates and dominate?
That being said, he's NHL ready no questions asked! Selfishly would it be good to watch him for the season, yes.
No matter the decision, I think Treliving will make the right one and it will be a hard one.

I honestly think that he and Backlund would be amazing together. Gaudreau not Goin no where
I feel like when Baertschi was rushed to the big league, and he made mistakes, he just entered a state where he was afraid to do anything. And he can't get out of it. Poor guy. However, he needs to get his stuff together.
Sven was fine in this game and has been solid the entire preseason. Doesn't seem to be any panic in his game anymore and looks refined. Certainly not the dire situation you are making it out to be.
He may get sent down to continue building up his confidence on offence, but I still think he is a prime candidate to get a spot out of camp with Gaudreau and if not camp, later on in the season.

Honestly, at some point, they need to just trust Sven, let him learn from his mistakes and stop punishing and sending him to the farm.
In this game for example I did not notice him at all. Every once in a while he makes a good pass, sure, but there is not the same 'swagger' that use to be in his game.
Remember how much Colborne improved after being gifted ice time? I think the same treatment would pay dividens for Sven.

Not this again. Sven is not being punished by going to Adirondack. We have room for maybe two kids. Gaudreau and Sven fill similar roles, and to start the year I can't imagine both can stay.
The same arguments that can be made for Johnny going to the AHL can be made for Sven; he gets more time to work on his 200ft game with Huska, and he will be that team's go-to guy in every offensive situation. There's absolutely nothing wrong with letting him stay in the AHL a little longer than he needs - hopefully it motivates him.
Beyond that, have a look at the band-aids waiting to happen that occupy our wings.
-Glencross has never played a full season as a Flame. The last time he came close was in 2010-11, at 79 GP.
-David Jones is one tough mosquito away from mangling his shoulder again.
-Backlund isn't exactly Jay-Bo when it comes to ironmen, which means Colborne may need to come off the wing and back into the middle.
-Raymond played 82 games for the first time since the Vancouver Olympics.
That doesn't even allow for the possibility that Setoguchi plays himself off the roster with a full month of regular season ice time.
The opportunities for Sven with this team are so numerous they scarcely merit counting. He will be on the big club one way or another soon enough, and I would expect to see him stay there. Especially if he starts the year in the AHL.

Pretty sad if the AHL team has more talent than the NHL team...JG deserves to be on the team
You don't realize how crazy our fans are about JG until you're sitting in the dome. People get out of their seats JUST for that kid. And there are distinctive reactions from the crowd every time he makes a deke. I was so surprised how much people paid attention to him, but it seems his reputation is now everywhere in the fan base. Not a single preseason game I've been to before was as packed the one I went to this week. And you just know what the fans came out to see. Keeping the kid up here would not only be smart from a managerial standpoint, but from a business one as well. The merch, the seats, they're gonna sell like mad as long as he's playing here. Win or lose.

Here's all 3 of JG's assists tonight I saw posted elsewhere.
The part that amazes me on that second assist, and I'm sure it's been talked to death already, is the seeming omniscience Gaudreau has.
You can see it develop from the camera angle but it's amazing that he visualizes and understands the position and movement of all the players around him. He holds and waits until Perreault (85) commits to a hit then rolls out of danger. Passing to Jooris seems like his secondary option as he runs straight into Trouba (8) (which it looks like he thought would keep the outlet to Jooris as blocked) but the ability to get out of danger and know that he's got at least two players out of the play (Perreault and Halischuk (15)) is something I haven't seen in a Flames player in...well, ever. The earliest games I remember seeing live were in Vernon's twilight years. Tanguay had great ice-level vision but didn't always show that level of elusiveness offensively nor did he seem to always been in the right spot or know exactly what he needed to do.
I try to keep myself grounded with Gaudreau and remember that it's still preseason and he's still playing marginal NHLers...but it's seeming more likely that Gaudreau will be on the Flames roster to start the season. I'm fully on the bandwagon at this point.

I've been saying that Gaudreau should probably start in the AHL but he's making that a difficult line to hold. Good to see him play this well in camp. Special player.
